Default Random lighting ideas

I don't claim these are original ideas, but what the hell.

- Colored lights inside the center storage bin

- Artistic shapes cut into the bin door, filled with frosted plastic and backlit

- LEDs in the storage bin door that respond like audio level meters or just "dance" with the music

- Lights inside the air vents

I've already done half of what you listed. Get creative up in here!

How 'bout some LEDs in the handles above the doors?

How 'bout LEDs behind the opener of the glove box?

Why not slap some behind the door handles like they do it in japan?

How about taking the mirror apart and putting LEDs in the bottom of it so they shine down onto the dash?

Why not put LEDs in the bottom edges of your doors so they shine onto the ground when the door is opened?

How about LEDs above the storage shelves?

It wouldn't be hard to do these mods, you can get pre-wired LEDs on ebay for less than a dollar each, the only limit is your imagination. All you need to know is basic electrical wiring and you're golden.

Opr8r and toybox1 have most of those light mods you mentioned and then some. As much as I love summer, I can't wait for it to start getting dark sooner so we can light things up at our evening meets.

I've got the storage bin lit and windowed and lights in the liftgate, among others:

I've got the A/C lights and LEDs behind the handles on the roof, I'm working on the door handles, i've got the storage box lit (no window... yet), and I'm going to LED in the door handles and on the door panels. I don't plan on doing the lift gate (I'm all about invisibility when they're not on), but I'll come up with something...

The liftgate lights are semi-hidden behind plexiglass. I am going to re-do it with smoked plexi to hide them better. All my other lights are hidden, I'm the same way.

Sweet, the smoked plexiglass is a good idea. Maybe you could just slap a layer of tint film over it?

I tried that, as soon as the plexi flexed a little, it peeled off. Maybe I'll try some spray adhesive but I think the smoked will look better. I just dread the thought of all that Dremel work again...

Sorry, EvilDave is lit up like a Xmas tree too. (As if you're Box isn't getting more than its share of attention lately...)

No offense, playa, Just when I read the list of ideas like lights behind the grab bars and in the bottoms of the doors made me think of those guys.

Any suggestions for cutting the auxillary storage box window?

The door is 2 pieces. There's 3 tabs at the bottom. Make sure you cut the hole in the inside part bigger than the outside part so you don't see it thru the hole. Plexi was too thick to sandwich in there, so I used some hard clear plastic from a package. I also used some black door edge guard to trim the outer edge of the window. Made the cut edge look much smoother.

you dont tint plastic. it bubbles badly when the plastic outgasses when it warms up. the film is also NOT removable once installed (as it is on glass). Cheaper and better to buy smoked plexi (or smoke paint it... but no tint)

Wow, very cool ideas with upgraded interior lights.

My question is really basic. When I got my drop-down DVD monitor installed, I lost the dome light, which was the one and only interior light I had. 'Course with the key on, I can press a button and there is some lighting in the DVD monitor base plate, but that's not what I want.

I read somewhere in here that there is a red/yellow wire that is "door open" for the dome light. Would this be the wire I'd have to splice into if I put in some other kind of interior light that goes on whenever the doors are open? Or, would I be better wiring into the door jamb switch itself, which is red/white?

What I'm really looking for is interior lights that come on automatically whenever the doors or rear hatch is opened. That interior is DARK at night without any kind of automatic interior lighting!

Thanks

That's the wiring colors, you should be able to tap the power to the door and do that.

Oh yeah, another lighting idea that I'm going to work out today: LEDs in the housing for the hooks on the back of the seats.

Thanks for the wire color list, it'll come in handy. Just went on eBay, and I think I'm going to get these rectangular 4-bulb amber LED lights. I'm going to get 4 of them, and put them in the vicinity of the front foot wells and in the rear by the back of the front seats, probably in the plastic trim that runs along the bottom. That way, I can wire them into the 4 door jamb switches. I think the LEDs have two wires, one for juice and the other for ground. So I'll do a test hookup first, then if they work I'll finish the job. This should give me the interior lighting that I'm looking for, certainly more than what I have now, which is zip!
