Default Rear Speaker Install?

I have a pair of 5.25 speakers I am trying to install in the rear side panels. I was just wondering how to go about mounting the speaker. I was thinking about getting a 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch spacer and just drilling holes into the wall. This seems like it would work but Im not sure if there would be any side effects. Thanks for the help, this is my first real mod.

I installed 5.25's in the rear holes with no problem. I actually didn't think they would fit, but there is enough room. You will have to drill new screw holes.
