What kind of power is even needed to crack a window?

Reason I ask is because I'm looking to upgrade my system.

To break a window like the windsheild, your spl rating would need to be in the area of 165dB. I dont know if you have every been in a car that loud, but if you were, glass is not the first thing I would be worried about, eardrums would be the first to go.

OUr show/shop truck has 6 15s with 3600 Watts rms and we just got tested at 153.4dB, it should hopefully be louder on the next run.

Alternators, I am going to buy a new one and send it out to be rewound. The guy I am dealing with says I should be about to get close to 250 amps out of this stock casing.

Yes thats 2 titaniums 12"....................I dont know about the whole alternator thing because if you see what I have now in my cardomain you will see why I never bother to learn about that but maybe once I get the car then I'll see if Piston can help me sorry I dont know your real name but I'm sure will meet once I get my car.

Not bad... my showcase install (im an amateur installer) is an 03 S-10 Xtreme extended cab with 2 - Audiobahn AW1805Q's in a mere 9cu/ft (tiny for a wall!) with 2 cheap Sony 1000p5's (class d, 900wRMSx1 into 2 ohms) powering, with stock electrical... windows up on the dash it does a 155.6 thus far, and it's only getting louder. (33hz tune, gotta have all the lows intact!!)

I would have done more, but he ran out of money lol.

But yea, it's loud, but the windows aren't broken. They sure move a lot.

I believe that 165db estimate to be true, I've seen it happen before... It's usually on a larger vehicle with a big flat windshield... I saw a Tahoe do it, he was at the top of the 160 spectrum. Keep in mind that door seals and window seals will usually let loose first though!!

 

i saw a video...it was a lil old corolla wagon...i think it hit high 160's it looked like the entire car expanded out then all the windows shattered.....i don't remember the name of the video but if i find it i'll share....

As for your amp situation I would suggest getting an eclipse amp. Eclipse makes solid amps...
I personally have the Eclipse DA7232 and 2 of the PA4212 amps for my components. I don't have it hooked up yet but I am going to buy the bridges for them to connect them all to look like one big ___ 4 ft amp..... =)
You could give your Subs a comfortable 1000watts each with the DA7232.
I honestly havent picked my subs yet..... Looking at 4 JL W3 12's or maybe a RE XXX 15.....
