Removing back seats

Removing back seats
We're going to be removing the back seats from an XB. Anyone have any experience with this? I hear there are a lot of wires underneath. Any tips or thoughts would be really helpful. We are a non-profit organization and the XB is being donated to us by one of our incredible members. For our purposes we need a flat surface in the back. Thank you!

1. Pop up the bench seat bottom at the front on each side.
2. Reach underneath the bench seat and pull the seatbelts through the bottom.
3. Stand directly behind the front seats, facing the rear of the vehicle. Using your knees, push the bench seat bottom toward the back of the vehicle. Reach between the bench seat bottom and the top, directly in the middle, and you will feel the dreaded bench seat hook and loop. While pushing with your knees, you should be able to pull upward on the loop and pull it off the hook causing the entire bench seat bottom to come loose.
4. Take the bench seat bottom out and put it some place clean and safe.
5. Remove the 3 10mm bolts that hold the rear of the seat axle down to the floor.
6. Remove the 2 13mm bolts that hold the seat axle to the sides of the vehicle. These bolts are a PITA since there isn't a whole lot of clearance. You may need to use a box-end or open-end wrench to remove them.
7. Once the two seat bolts from hell are removed, you should be able to remove the upper portion of the rear bench by giving the seat axle a good tug. Be careful not to scuff the plastic paneling when removing the rest of the seat.
I hope this helps.

The bench seat bottom removes easily if you remove the seat backs first. Only 4 bolts take off the backs. Once they are off the center seat bottom clip comes off easily.
BTW once the seats are removed the floor will not be flat. If you want a flat floor the best way is remove the back seat and then construct a wood floor to sit at the same height as the spare cover...covering the area that was occupied by the seat.
