Removing Bazooka tube?
On a 2006 xB with the Bazooka tube option along with the IPOD pioneer radio, can the tube be removed (simply unplugging, cutting wires, whatever) without affecting the rest of the factory sound system? I'm looking at buying a box and want the release series 4.0 (Torched Penny paint) so my selection is narrowed a bit but a local dealer has one with everything I want, plus the bazooka tube (which wife doesn't want). If they'll do me right on trade I don't mind paying for the tube but don't want to get into a mess if I can't simply unplug it without screwing up the rest of the system.
I don't have any personal experience with those but from what I've read around here you should be able to remove it fairly easily with no effect on the rest of the system. Try using "SEARCH" with keyword bazooka. You'll get a lot of hits and I'm sure you'll find what you need.
yeah, if strictly up to me i'd like to keep it there, although it's mounted in a rather obtrusive way- almost in the middle of the back cargo area. I'd have thought the'd have come up with a more ingenious way of mounting it. I guess toyota thinks their "target audience" doesn't ever need to put stuff in the back!
Thanks for the replies! I love the little toaster and am really looking forward to getting one!

If you do decide to get the RS4 I bet someone would uninstall it for you and give you the rear pieces from there car with out holes and a couple of bucks,Then everyone would be happy.

Yeah it just simply unplugs...my wife did not want to me to put mine in on my xb but I did it anyways b/c its my car. But funny thing is she loves it now! it just gives the music a totally different feel with depth and the best thing of all is that it does not take up any room compared to a sub box.
Yeah, I tested my question earlier today by unplugging one on a new car and trying out the radio, running fade back and forth to make sure speakers were playing everywhere. I was also slightly surprised to see just how simply it was mounted with the four 1/4" bolts. Looked like it would be easy to move over.
I would much prefer to have the sub as well but it wasn't worth fighting with my wife over- have to pick your battles. About 5 years ago, before getting married, I had an ext. cab S-10 that I put a 10" sub into. I pulled out the jack carrier from the middle of the rear wall and designed myself a box that would fit in its place, still allow the two jump seats to fold down from the sides, and provided the appropriate airspace for the Polk sub I used. I drew it up in CAD and had a local audio shop build it for me. I mounted the Sony amp right on top of the box. I later added a 2nd amp to power the door and dash speakers and mounted it on the back of 1 of the jump seats such that it would just fold down with the seat. Two amps, six speakers plus sub- I thought it sounded pretty darn good but eventually the truck wore out and I had to let it go. I haven't gotten back into customized car audio since... Priorities change I guess.
On another note, we left the F-150 at the dealership tonight. Currently in a loaner X-box and our Torched Penny is supposed to be ready for pickup tomorrow
We ended up adding several more options- the 10 spoke alloys, cargo cover, leather steering wheel.. I'm really looking forward to driving it!
