Default Replacement Speakers???

I had a few questions regarding replacement speakers. 1st. Will new speakers make a big difference with the Pioneer 6-disc that came with my Hot Lava? I am looking for just a little more bass without having to put a sub in the car. 2nd. I saw some conflicting information regarding speaker sizes...6.5, 4" and 51/4". What are the correct sizes? and what is the max size that can fit in the stock location? Thanks, guyz and galz

1. Get new High Quality Co-Ax Speakers
2. Amplify them, at least 50w RMS (Not peak)
3. Get a Sub, there is no replacement for a subwoofer.

BTW,
4" in the Dash
6.5" Inthe Front Doors
5.25" In the rear, by the hatch.

Can you squeeze 6.5 speakers in the rear?

I don't think so, with out cutting anyways, but then again I haven't looked that closely, they might fit in the rear doors, maybe, either way you're cutting something.

Good Luck with it.

Some Dynamat or equivelent around the speakers and paneling will help out with the bass. More is better.

Dave, I want to keep my stock single CD hu but upgrade the overall sound without spending too much money (i.e., <$400 for everything, incl. installation--unless installation is easy enough for anyone to do, then I'll do it myself). I need the space in the back so I don't think I can add a subwoofer. Therefore, can you (or anyone else) recommend some co-ax speakers that handle the bass better than others if you don't plan on installing a subwoofer? What amp would you use with them? Basically, what's the best set up for those not planning on installing a subwoofer?

Should all six speakers be replaced or can I get by with replacing only 2 or 4? If so, which ones would you replace--the front doors, dash, or rear?

If there is a subwoofer that can be installed without having to sacrifice any space in the back, that would be great, but there probably isn't one. I've searched the site and found some threads about people who have installed a sub within the hidden hatch area in the back but I don't know whether the sound coming from them would be an improvement or not (seems to me it could be muffled if you have anything like groceries or such in the back on top of the sub).

Thanks for the help,

Sure, there are many companies that make "Powered Subwoofer" Systems, IE Infinity's Basslink, that will fit right under the front seat. I would suggest replacing all 6 speakers.

As far as choosing speakers, look for a Hi Senstivity Level, at least 90, that means that they'll respond better with less power.

My recommendations, Boston FX4s, FX5s & FX6s, then a 10" BassLink.

Dave

(Sorry for the late post, I've had probs with this site from time to time.)

Thanks for the help,
FYI the infinity basslink WON'T fit under the seat - i had it, and it didn't so i had to sell it. What i then bought was the Kenwood w00x - self powered woofer enclosure that is only 4" tall - fits under the passenger seat with plenty of clearance. And it sounds better than my stock Bazooka tube (which i took out b/c it sounded like ___ and i needed the storage space. ... this kenwood w00x woofer - even though its only a 5.25" woofer that drives a 6.5" passive radiator, it hits harder than the 8" bazooka did - its a miracle of sound, i don't get it. It only puts out 30 watts x 2, but at such a high SPL, that you'd swear it was a pair of tens. Don't let the looks or specs fool you, this thing has punch.

you can read the reviews on epinions if you want too, several people have said how amazed they are at the sound from this little guy.

Best part - i still have rear cargo room, and it only cost me $220!

that was the best audio mod i've done yet.

Thanks, that's good info.

There resaon it hits better is because there is more cone surface, 5.25 & 6.5 = 11.75, which is almost 1.5x the surface of the bazooka.

I wanted to ask how you wired your WOOT? If I order a xB without the bazooka tube and get a WOOT instead. Where do I hook it up? I want to keep my cargo space also.

Thanks in advance.

By the way I can't get an xB till at least July since they don't have them here in Hawaii yet.
