Default replacing stock speakers

i was wondering if anyone knew how to remove the stock speakers from the doors? it looks to me like they are held in by clips or pop-rivits and i don't want to break them.

Seriously, just drill the rivets out. It's that simple.

If you want to save 15 bucks you can remove the speaker cone and magnet from the factory speaker assembly and then mount your new 6.5 inch speakers in the frame. A set of tin snips (BIG scissors?) will readily cut the framework that holds the magnet and the cone is just cut out with a mat knife. Keep the wires intact and solder them in place on your new speaker. Then the factory wiring harness remains remains intact.
After you drill out the rivets you can use either #10 or #12 self tapping sheet metal screws to remount in the hole that remains.

for real ease, get your speakers through crutchfield. great instructions, mounting brackets, and speaker adapters are included. it shouldn't take more than 1 1/2 hours to get it done perfect, unless you want to run an aftermarket amp to everything. but i'm a real noob and i was able to get it done very easily.

if you go through crutchfield, call up the tech guys. they'll give you good suggestions on larger speakers you might want to mount as well. good luck.

I tried to drill them out but the rivets spun around with the drill bit, therefore, I had to chisel them out. No damage was done.

Does anyone have the actual mounting depths and opening sizes?

I went to crutchfield and they seem to offer a weird range of speakers.

The dash size is 4" and the front door is 5 1/4 but can fit a 6 1/2, the rear is also 5 1/4. Not sure what the depth is.

I've seen in more than one place where people are putting 4" dash, 6 1/2" front door, and 6 1/2" rear.

Yeppers, this is what works. Scosche makes adapters for both front door and rear speakers that accept 6.5" speakers or you can DIY from MDF or plywood. Best place to get Scosche adapters is from www.cardomain.com. I shown this a bazillion times but here is a link to my system. https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=68068

The Scosche adapter part #'s are SAT6 for the front doors and SASCN656 for the rear speakers. This is the easiest way to mount 6.5" speakers in your xB.

Are the stock speakers that bad?

I was planning on having the dealer install my amp & small sub box to the factory setup & leaving it at that...my wife's xA stereo sounds really good, so I figured some bass was all I needed for the xB.

I heard speakers in a tC. All I have to say is buy the adapters. That's just MHO.
