Default Request: xA RoadyXT install how-to

Can someone post or direct me to a how-to for installing a RoadyXT in an xA? I'm looking for instructions on wiring (power and antenna) and running the wires under the dash/headliner/carpet/wherever.

Thanks.

Hi I just installed a roady 2 in my box. Very simple. Are you using a fm direct antenna adaptor? I ran my xm antenna out the rear hatch of my xb. There was a seal on the rear hatch. I pulled it out enough to run the antenna wire under it and into the car. just push the seal back on. then i ran the wire into the car. the best place to tuck the wire is under the plastic panels alond the sides of the car. I tucked mine under those panels along the tops of the doors and though the door seals. It is thin enough it will just slide in with your fingernai or even a plastic butter knife. when I got to the front driver door I ran it down the middle pillar between the front and rear door. Theese plastic panels just snap right off. they are held on by clips and dont even need to be taken off completely. The panels at the bottom of the door are the same way. from there I ran it to the dashboard and just tied the wire up until i got to the center column. The dash board is pretty easy to take apart. I imagine xA is similar. just pull off the heater ***** and undo the screws. the panels that the screws hols on should also snap off. Start at the bottom and go up. Most toyota product come apart like that. The antenna wire is a thick black one. pull it out of your stereo and hook the xm direct to it. Then the xm wire to your stereo. It looks more complicated than it is. Anyone can do an install on these cars.

I just installed this Audiovox XR9 into my box this weekend, I will post pics soon, but I ran the antenna out of the passenger side door.... what made you decide on the rear hatch instead? just curious!

I decided to run the antenna out the rear because I can setit directly in the middle of the roof. I also have a factory spoiler on mine and it hides it well. Also not much wire hanging on the roof.

Thanks for the replies. On the xB, how did you mount the antenna receiver to the car? Also, what antenna adaptor did you use to connect the radio to the XM antenna?

The Xm antennas are magnetic. No problem there. I bought the FM drect adaptor from Delphi. It is the one that hooks into your car FM antenna. I just uninstalled that garbage last night. I have a Sony head unit. The Delphi adaptor did absolutely nothing for my signal. IN FACT it made my FM radio stations almost non existant. The built in modulator worked and sounded just as good for me. When you put an aftermarket head unit in an xB you must connect a power antenna wire. This whole time thought my antenna booster in xB was bad and turns out that i unplug the delphi adaptor and bam mad Fm stations. A lot of aftermarket head units you can hook your Xm direct to an aux. Jack. Sony on the other hand it also requires a $99+ auxillary adaptor too so I'm just gonna stick with the modulator for now. Wow! sorry so long.

Let me ask you did you try turning off the unit?
Like tat2dude25 stated the antenna is magnetic.. best place to do it is right where he suggested, The Roady XT has a decent FM Modulator built into it, but if you are lookin for a more wired approach get the Delphi Wired FM Antenna. Because the Toyotas use a universal antenna, there is no need for antenna adaptor. It also comes with a CLA for hardwiring power. When you install and turn it on, Tune the radio to a nothing but static station. Then turn the Roady XT to that station as well. This will make for little interference. If you have anymore questions, let me know, I sell and install these things.

the reason i didn't want to use FM modulation ; was becuase XM radio's main purpose is to give Digital Quality Radio! which is why I hate it that my mom uses the built in FM Modulator to hers! I have mine w/ my ipod hard wired to the HU using the USASPEC product.

The modulator works great in some areas andnot so well in others. The Fm direct adaptor to me was a total waste of $40. Some who live where they cant get a Static station to use the modulator of is well worth the $. I love my Xm and wouldnt trade it for anything. You just have to customize it and work out any bugs their might be for your area. I would have mine hard wired but Sony makes it dificult to do that so I might just replace the Sony.
