Default Roadtripping in da Box soon!

It's that time of the year for the family and I but this time, we want to drive all the way to Tampa!

Will I be OK to drive down there, without cruise control? It's almost 1,400 miles there, from here in Chicago! I'm just a bit worried that my right leg will get real tired on the way there!

So who has done a long roadtrip without the cruise control and survived?

man, im also worried because i will be doing a roadtrip this summer, although no where near as long. i dont have cruise control and i will be towing a jet ski to laughlin, nv from san diego (350 miles). it takes about 6 hours and there will be only one stop. I can barely handle 2 hour road trips before my thigh starts killing me and my foot numbs up. id like to know others tips on this problem!

well i am 17 so you cant use that excuse

another tip i have found is to take out your wallet if you have it in your back pocket, that will alleviate some of the discomfort.

The nook to the left of the steering column is perfect for wallets.

I've done 3 hour trips and I set the GPS to use back roads so it's much more exciting and easier on my foot.

I drove from Washington DC to VT and back in February without cruise -- 7 or 800 miles? My wife drove her Camry back from Wyoming solo last summer and never used cruise.

I too like taking back roads to keep my mind sharp on solo trips.

Cheers,

MD

Yes, very true zman. Highways kill my foot. All my roadtrips are on highways so my foot is pretty stationery for long periods of time. it can be super distracting when the discomfort starts.

use a pole or a long stick to wedge the accelerator.

When I lived in Rochester, NY and drove a very-base-model GMC Slownoma, I drove from Rochester to Pontiac, MI more than once without CC. It's not the easiest thing (the xB has vastly better seats, at least; that makes a huge difference), but if you're up to the challenge of driving that far in the first place, it's fine.

I did a 1200 mile round trip to Canada in '07 and I was fine. I drive 250 miles, one way, to come to school. That's 4 hours and I usually just drive straight through (yay 35mpg!!). I'm about to do that rip again friday night.

You'll be fine, just rest your leg every now and then.

I live in the Houston Area. My wife and I have driven to California and most recently, we drove to Cocoa Beach, Florida. Didn't use the cruise control. Very comfortable drive. We stopped about ever 300 miles or so, to fuel up and stretch out. I'm 40 and it wasn't bad at all.
The California trip was about the distance from Chi-Town to Tampa!
