#42
Ok, I'm on my 2nd replacement of the av conrtol module, and now the damn thing went out again,This will be #3! I got 6months on the first one and 3 months on the second one, will the third time be a charm? I don,t think so! Theres got to be a problem with something else in the system, hopefully they can find it before our warranties are up! Something is defective with this system! Called Scion Corporate, I suggest everyone else do the same! Your fix might work for now but it won't last, Let them know because they need to realize there is a big problem with this! Every One Call Please! 1-866-707-2466

I just bought the rs3 head unit, minus monitors from another member.........what will i need to buy other than monitors to get the system working? Also do you know if this head unit will work with steering wheel controls?

You should be plug and play. RCA output, and the steering wheel control is a quick connect, same as factory. It's after the HU that all the problems happen.
I believe the problem is a few things. Sorry wiring, underrated wire, the power filter, and this cluster box that I think is for the wireless head sets, and the dual audio capability.
Running an under rated, poorly tapped power supply to several different components, all in series, before making it to the monitors, was a mistake.

Re: RS 3.0 monitors drop out
[quote="Driver_Lost"]After hearing Juicy_xB's three times a charm deal, I decided to try and fix it myself. So far its not the monitors.
After looking into the sorry installation of the power feed Scion did at port, installing our system. And from my experience when I added my rear 15" monitor, that was doing the same thing brand new out of the box. (It would drop out once in awhile. Mostly when the power from the battery was under 11.6 volts.
I installed a dedicated power supply in a heavier gauge wire (10agw) and a noise filter. Problem solved for the big screen. )
So I did the same thing for the stock monitors.
First. I replaced the power supply line, and the noise filter. (For those that don't know. The power supply to our head rest monitors, was a tap off of the cigarette lighter. ) I ran a dedicated power supply from the battery into a switched relay from the ignition switch.
Second. was to locate the power supply to the monitors, and bypass everything in between. Each monitor bung, comes into a gray quick connector. The dark black wires are the power out, to the monitors. All you need to do is cut the black power wires to the monitors at the plug, and bypassed the junk in between, The new power wire will now go direct to the power supply, going to the monitors.
Problem solved
So did the poor wiring, and undersized wire cause the filter and connection box to malfunction, or was it a bad design to begin with?
What ever it was this fixed the problem.

Update: My TV’s are still working with the new purchased box and stock wires. I still have my old one somewhere floating around. I remember opening it up and nothing looked or smelled fried. Perhaps you are on the right track with the power leads. If this new one goes out I’ll swap out the wires and such.

Im finally getting mine fixed here at the dealer. Their is an official technical service bulletin out for this problem. I has a tech look it up. The part number to be ordered is PTS34-52060-AV. And that is the A/V control module.

bring it to the stealership, they already know of the problem and warranty it! I had the same problem , made an appointment went and they said I had sub wirings so they wont replace, so I took them out and brang it back. Now my tvs work. its just a 5 - 10 dollar part I forgot the name of it. this problem is all over, even scion knows of it.
