Satellite Radio Antenna Install in xB..
I just received the Sirius Sportster radio for my xB. I have it up and running and it sounds great! However, I need help with my antenna. Currently, I just open my window, slap the magnetic antenna to the roof and drive away.
That's fine for temporary purposes, but I'd like to get that antenna in a regular spot. I'm not going through the head unit to install. I'm running the Sportster through the cigarette lighter and running the antenna from the Sportster.
So, the question is, how the heck do I install the antenna? Ideally, I want to run this through the back hatch, run it under the seats and into the radio from there.
However, I'm not sure how to get the wire from the outside of the car to the inside unless I'm doing the 'roll down the windows' every time route.
Help me out!

I'm going to be getting Siruis very soon, & have been researching this. Because you want it on the back hatch, you'll need to fish it under the carpet or down the door sill rail & then up the corner...... OR ....do what I want to do & mount it to the top of the dash, right behind the gauge cluster, near the defroster, then wire it down to the Tuner & away you go.
if you still need help by the time I get mine in, I'll take pics for everybody to see.
I think it'll work fine & look good, plus be a hellalot easier to wire/install.
Good luck with the install.

I wired mine behind the dash (remove glovebox) then ran the wire under the door footplate cover thingy's all the way to the back then under the carpet, up the plastic trim to the top of the back hatch and then out the back hatch about 2 inches to the top of the roof

i would go with option number 2. i have xm in my suburban and getting it for the XB next week, and in 3 years i have never had problems with the antenna mounted inside the dash of my suburban. Just stick it in as far as you can and as close the top of the dash and window area. The less metal around it the better. The signal goes through most plastics and other things. the only problem is metal.

I have my Sirius antenna on the top of the hatch and ran the wire through the grommet coming from the hatch. I've had it that way for 6-8 months now with no problems. I will be looking into hiding the antenna like in the front bumper or something for a cleaner look.

Hey, Bill, there is a nice big metal bar going from side to side in the front of the car, oh wait that the actual bumper, LOL.
I'm going to look into the dash Idea, or maybe on the outside of the A-Pillar.
anyways, largosama let us know if you get it installed.

I ran mine through the grommet where the water goes through to the rear window washer.... the wire never gets "shut" in any door that way. I have had no problems.
The factory suggests running it through, behind the rear tailight housing.... I found that to be quite a chore...

The problems that I have with putting out side, is it moving. When it moves it will scratch the paint & leave marks, I also tend to drive fast (believe it or not) & don't want it to slide of the back or something.
I would love to find a Used xB Spoiler & mount one inside then Fiber glass over it & mad it look stock.

It shouldn't move, from general or aggresive driving. It is very strong, despite your driving style....
However, an aggressive automatic car wash will send it right off the car.....

Well, Once I get it if I don't have it up on the dash & working fine, I'll prolly run it back & wire it up that ways.
anybody wanna sell a OEM Spoiler?? so I can modify it house the Antenna.

I ran mine down the pillar next to the dash and under the rug by the door sills through to the back and under the weather stripping up to the roof line and out on the roof

I finally got my Sirius Tuner unit (SIR-ALP1) & got it installed, the antenna is on the Dash & it's working so far, I need to rerun it though, but I'll wait until 'violent b' does the bumper thing to see if it works, I'll probably do that.
