Can someone tell me ( with some certainty)....how the passenger side airbag "cover" deploys when the airbag is activated?....does it come off in one piece or does it "break" along some weak seam when it deploys? Thanks.

 

The pressing question is why do you need to know...my hope would be to never find out.

 

If you must know, I had accidentally scratched the lid with a piece of lumber I bought at a hardware store ...because the long lumber needed to rest there to fit into the car. So I covered the door afterwards with a sticky-sided textured plastic sheet to make it look better. I realized that doing this would impede the door from "breaking".... IF..... it is designed to break in half as the bag deploys....but it would NOT impede the function.... if instead it opens like a hinged door at one side. So now that I explained it.... do you have an answer? Thanks.

 

Unfortunately I cannot say definitively as I've got an xB but if I had to guess I would say it 'splits' just like the xB airbag.

 

Anyone else know for sure?.... anyone been to a bone-yard or saw pics on internet? I can't find any pics, oddly of a blown-open door..
