Default Scion xA Pioneer radio (Version with Hi/Lo Volume buttons)

Folks:
I have A 2005 Scion xA with the factory Pioneer radio that uses SEPARATE High and Low volume buttons to adjust he listening volume. Meaning, I've seen some factory Pioneer radios that look identical but have a **** to control volume.

The issue?---> These are Separate buttons and is not designed as a single, toggled button, where pushing one side de-activates the other side. In my case, if I want to adjust volume up (higher), I give the "Up" button a nudge.
However, "Up" sticks "On" when pushed and volume rises all the way to Max with no other possible action you can take in bringing volume down.

How to solve? Maybe contact cleaner squirted into space around button? Affects plastic? Other? Stupid, stupid design.
