Scion XB Sirius using Stock Head and Pioneer SIR-PNR1 IP-Bus
I have been looking at the possibility of using the Stock Toyota/Scion head unit in my XB with the Pioneer SIR-PNR1 IP-Bus based Sirius Tuner just introduced at CES in January and not available from many sources like BestBuy and Internet Sources.
1 After talking to several tech people at Pioneer I found the following. The Units we have in our Scion's have a data bus but it is modified to a Toyota OEM standard. The stock Pioneer IP-Bus units (XM, Sirius, and CD Changers) will not directly work without changing your head unit out or using an adaptor.
2 They turned me on to a company local to me "PIE" that produce a unit called "TOY03/PC-PIOX" this is a two way data converter that allows us to use standard Pioneer IP-Bus devices with our Toyota/Scion head unit. They have not tested the "SIR-PNR1" yeat as it is just in the last week available.
3 The above converter has been tested usint CD Changers and XM Tuners (GEX-P910XM, GEXFM903XM, GEX-P900XM) depending on the age of your Scion head unit you may or may not get Text output on the head but selecting chanels should not be a problem. The Pioneer web site states that the "PIR-PNR1" will work with the same Pioneer head units as the above XM tuners. Both Pioneer and PIE think the New Sirius unit sould work ok but will not say for sure.
I went down to BestBuy and picked up a SIR-PNR1 for $99 plus tax and ordered the TOY03/PC-PIOX from Discount car stereo "http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=692" and will attempt to get this working this weekend. I will post back on the outcome.
Also this adaptor is for 2003 and up Toyota/Scion with the small data plug, there is another part number for 2002 and older "TOY/PC-PIOX"

Well it did not work, as it turns out the data from SIR-PNR1 is just a little diferent than the Pioneer GEX-P910X XM Adaptor. It is still a good deal for someone wanting to hook up a Pioneer CDX-P680 6 CD External Changer or the GEX-P910XM Satallite Tuner as that is what the unit was made for. I am selling this unit on ebay item "5757315390", and going to purchase a Pioneer DEH-P6700MP from Crutchfield they have free shipping and will throw in the install kit (wire harness and face plate filler) for free.
