So I ordered my XA and am waiting for it to arrive.
At the dealership the shifter seemed a bit low.
I guess I am used to my S-10 truck with a high shifter.
Do they make some sort of extender to make it higher?

 

Not that I know of but it shouldn't be hard to remove the shifter arm, cut it, add an extension and weld the 3 sections back together. You may also need a longer boot.
It's kinda funny cause everyone else is adding a shorter shift to their manual shift cars for faster shifts and you want to do the opposite.

Yeah, I'm crazy.
Anybody know what the thread size of the Shift **** is?
I was thinking I could just rig something up at Home Depot with a female/Male extension and then place the **** on that? I could then anodize or paint the extension for looks.
Theroetically it sounds possible, Any thoughts?

 

Not sure of the **** size but maybe do a search or start another thread asking the question. You could always find a long bolt and cut the head off or threaded stud and join them with 2 extended nut and use 2 short nuts to lock everything together. I love fabbing up stuff like that. It's half the fun of owning one of these Scions. LOL

you can still have a tall shifter and short throw you just need to adjust the pivot point is all.

You could always call your dealer to find out what thread size the shifter is. I'm thinking either the parts or service dept. should know these things.

 

already done it to my buddy's 05 corolla. the threads are 1/2" x 20. lowes didnt have and threaded rod that were 1/2 x 20 so we took a 1/2" bolt chopped the ends off and re threaded it. of course ours was a little longer that what you are thinking about doin:



I made that for him and when i installed it, i didnt stop laughing for almost an hour.

I was gonna make up a few more and sell them on ebay just for a laugh. if anyone wants one made, ill do it for $15 shipped and painted whatever color you want. the extension is approx 13". its great if you need a good laugh and just like screwing around. it threads on easily, taked 2 min to install. remove ****, thread extention onto shifter, thread **** onto extension. IMHO Being a Scion, the thread for the shifter should be metric. They were made in Japan.

 

thats what i thought it would be too, i busted out the thread guage and everything, nothing metric fits.

 

I never thought finding out what the threads were was going to be this hard

That might work for you scoobydo. From everything I've found out the thread should be M12X 1.25. That extender doesn't work for that thread so it looks like your options are small. I'd just get a piece of m12X1.25 threaded stock and use an extended nut to join it all together.

 

how much taller? tall like mine?

 

Thats good for a auto but with a stick it would be in the steering wheel most of the time.
I made mine from a piece of wrought iron and welded a small pipe with set screws to attach it after I cut off the original below the boot.
