The bulbs are a direct replacement. You need to screw the old bulb out and screw the new bulb in. When installing the bulbs please make sure that you do Not touch the glass portion of the bulb.

The oils on your hand will make the bulb blow either right away or much faster then normal. Even if you think your hands are clean there will always be some oil on your hands. You can either wear latex gloves when installing them or you can just touch the plastic portion of the bulb.

We can't see UV rays. The sun's rays that we see are part of the visible spectrum (we generally see yellow beating down).
This is why it's just as possible to get sunburned on a cloudy day, the clouds keep away light, but UV rays pass right through, and there is also no longer the effect of heat making you go back inside, therefore you stay outside longer, get burned.
I think Ultraviolet is just a description name of the light, its just violet tinted.
