Default Sirius Reciever

I have read through alot of posts and still cannot seem to get a for sure answer to what I am looking for. I have the Upgraded HU with ipod controls in my 06 xA but I want to add Sirius to it. I need to know if there is an aftermarket reciever available that will connect directly to my HU or do I need to find a Scion specific one.....I really dont want to have to use a standalone unit.

you know, i'd call pioneer or crutchfield directly. they have both been very helpful for me
(although neither gave me the answer i wanted to hear, it was still the answer).

You'll need to get the OEM Scion one to control it thru the HU, or you could get a Plug'n'Play one & run it FM Modulated. Either one will work.

Getting the OEM Scion reciever is what I would like but I dont want to pay the $399 price the dealer wants for it.

I was in exactly the same boat with our '04 xB...Scion pricing to enable satellite functionality from the stock HU was like $650. $650! this is after we already paid $700 for the CD changer upgrade.

Anyways, Pioneer does make a Sirius box that works with Pioneer HUs...just not the Scion HUs.

I, too, was getting myself all worked up b/c I didn't want a separate controller, but guess what? I broke down and hooked it up last night, it only took an hour to get a clean install, and now I am stoked.

We got the Xact Visor mount. We paid $49, but just last week I saw an ad for one that was free with service.

Save the $399. It's not worth it. Once you start getting the signal via wireless FM on radio station 88.1, you will stop worrying about whether or not you are controlling via the HU and just dig all the stations.

p.s. You do control volume from the HU. The only thing you don't control is which station you are on. But with the Xact Visor's rotary dial, it's 100000x better than the annoying push buttons on the '04 HU anyway...

Good luck, Scion Brother!

Thanks for the responses.....The real problem that I am facing is that I already have a Clarion HU with the SIR-CL1 Sirius reciever that has service....but I dont want to loose my ipod or Steering Wheel controls that my 06 HU features... I tried the Ipod adaptor with my Clarion HU but it was a piece of crap..........so I guess I will just have to decide what I want to do....either stay with the stock pioneer and add a standalone Sirius reciever or change to my Clarion and get the Sirius but loose the steering wheel and ipod controls.

yeah, if i had iPod functionality and the steering wheel controls i'd likely feel the same way. just be glad you don't have the laaaaaaaame '04/'05 HUs with the annoying push buttons. look how stoked i get just to use a single rotary ****! if i had to pick i'd go with iPod and steering wheel controls. if you go with the Clarion, tho, and want to sell your '06 ipod HU and harness, lemme know!

Sweet! Thanks amigo. The challenge is not so much the HU, but the '06 harness. Turns out Toyota doesn't make the harness available separately and this is necessary for install of the iPod deck...

go to circuitcity.com and put your car in when searching. it should come up with a list of what works with the car.

try this
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Pione...oductDetail.do

Pioneer SIRIUS Satellite Radio Tuner (SIRPNR1)
PIO SIRPNR1
• Works with most Pioneer CD players • Antenna included
i would call to find out about this one because it says it works with "most" pioneer receivers.

also look here this should be a list of what works. most of the plug and play ones should be fine.
http://www.circuitcity.com/rpsm/catO...ategorylist.do

personally i would go with a plug and play one. i have the one from scion and i love being able to control it from the HU but to be able to unplug it and bring it in the house and hook it up to a home docking station and listen to it in the house is awesome. that and you can never see the full name of the songs and artists on the stock HU and with a plug and play you will always see the full names of artists and songs and all that jazz.

the SIR-PNR1 will NOT work with the OEM HU, the harnesses are different, plus there is no data-bus port on the back of the HU to connect it to.

I like the look on the StarMate Replay, plus it'll record ~40 mins of audio., but I've never used one.

They should all be about the same.

You might want to check out http://www.siriusbackstage.com/

again, we have the xact visor. it is great and is super low profile, which rules.

also, rotary **** (!) is placed on the side, so it is simple to access and utilize. and you can flip flop the unit and the display inverts if you are left handed.

i have it mounted right above the steering wheel in the little cubby. didn't want to deal with routing the antenna from outside the car so i just put it at the base of the front window on the dash and routed wires through existing panel gaps down the side of the doorsill. all wires are hidden under/behind the front panel from below the steering wheel.

bottom line is the unit is easy to install cleanly and quickly, even for a non stereo-install/wiring-electronics type like me, and it works seamlessly with the stock hu via the wireless FM transmitter (except for selecting stations). other bonus is the readout is easy to see day or night. the visor has the most station presets of any unit, too (36).

you can get it from crutchfield:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-sd9ThQl...or&i=612XTR3CK

or in store at any best buy or circuit city.

$49, and i saw ads for $29 and even free with service (forgot where, tho) during the holiday crush.

Hey can you post some pics of your install? I've got the Visor too and want to see how other people have them in their xB's.

Thanks!

Here's kind of a reverse of the question. Would a Scion Sirius receiver work with an aftermarket headunit?

Check it out. Lacking the front mount, we have the front plate in the lower left hand corner of the front windshield. Turns out this makes it a great place to hold the Sirius antenna in place, too (velcro would work, too).

Then, just run the antenna cable down the little panel gap between the dash and A-pillar; I used a small flat-head screwdriver to carefully press it down into the gap...

Took a little extra effort to route it past the curve of the base of the white A-pillar and the dash panel; I just pushed in against the A-pillar to create the needed space.

Then run it down the length of the panel gap between the side of the dash and the rubber interior door sill, all the way down to the bottom of the dash and then just tuck the cable up under the dash:

Luckily, the steering wheel is adjustable so you can tilt it all the way down and run the antenna cable up through the gap between the steering wheel housing and the dash. You're doing the same thing with the AC adpater:

I just twist-tied the excess cables for both antenna and AC adapter and tucked up and under the dash panel below the steering wheel (for the antenna) and to the right footwell (for the AC adapter).

End result is:

Full frontal:

It took about 30 minutes, and that's only b/c I know nothing about installing car stereos so I was super cautious and scoped everything out somewhat carefully ahead of time. It will seriously take about 1/2 that time to just dial it up.

Oh yeah, the Sirus no-skid map was a giveaway at Scion Night II. Thanks, Sirius booth. It helps hold the tuner from skidding around in the little cubby. You could just use some black velcro for similar results. Also, I disassembled part of the dash mount that comes with the Xact Visor and just slid it into the bottom of the tuner to help prop it up a bit. I may add one of the suction cups to tilt it slightly higher.

That's pretty much it for us. Reception has been fine for the most part, although occasionally some stations drop out or have static. I assume this is the case even for external mounts, especially since the newish SIGMA antenna is Sirius' own answer to the interior mount approach.
