Default So whats the easiest way to add a sub with the stock headunit? (2005 xa)

Whats the preferred installation method for wiring the stock headunit to a sub amp?

Theres no rca outputs or remote wire, right? So I'll need to run a remote from another power source, and use some kind of converter to convert speaker signal?

I've never done it this way, but I kinda want to keep the stock headunit.

Is there some kind of adapter I can just plug into the radio's harness that does all the work for me?

I installed my sub and amp in the drivers rear compartment. I cut into the wiring for my rear drivers speaker and used a speaker wire -> RCA converter. I no longer have any audio through that speaker, but it isnt noticeable way up front.

The best way I have found is to buy a male and a female harness w/connector from eBay. Cheap, maybe $5 bucks a side.

Then splice the like colors together and create an intermediate harness. Buy a LOC as mentioned above and "T" those off the intermediate harness off the FRONT speaker leads as you solder it up. The rears are attenuated and do not provide as much bass signal. Trust me, I have been there and done that! Pull a remote turn on from the plug also! Run long RCAs to your amp location.

This accomplishes two things. No cutting or damage of the factory harness and the RCAs are behind the stock HU so *if* you decide to upgrade further (aftermarket HU!) its ready to go.

Gonna sell the car? Just unplug the intermediate harness and go. No evidence-no damage.

G/L!
