Default Soldering and Drilling

Ok I am installing lambo doors on my XB. The problem I am facing now is that I need to re-wire the wiring in the door panel. I believe I am going to have to move the wiring higher on the panel because right now the wiring is rather low.

First question is.... is there a specific drill bit I should use to drill a new hole in my door panel for the wiring to come through. Currently the hole is about 1.5 inches in diameter. Do they have a drill bit that can accomplish this?

Secondly I would like to solder the wires to make sure they have a nice good connection and won't come apart. In the past I would drive my car to a place that had a outlet I could use to plug my solder iron into and solder my wires. The problem I face right now is that my bumper and fenders are off of my car. So I am a bit leary of driving my car even a few feet in that shape. Is there some sort os soldering iron that doesn't need to be plugged in??? or am i just shyt out of luck? The outlet I use is literally like 100 ft away. So I guess my car would be safe for 100 ft minus the front and fenders.

they make 100+ foot extenstion cords. They are kinda costly, but pay for themselves pretty quick.

Can't wait to see your doors Good luck!

That thing looks bomb ___. HOpefully I can find one. That woudl be perfect. If I can't find one then I will just drive my car VERY slowly around the corner to an outlet.

Anyone know about the drill bit? I tried drilling into the frame of my car awhile ago and I didn't make it through the frame.

So that thing really works? I saw an infomercial on it the other day and figured it was one of those too good to be true kinda things.

LOL re: LAN party.

Icon, have you tried a hole saw? http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w..._ite=powertool

The ones I have are for wood, but I'm sure you could get one for metal. They ARE costly though. You can pick them up for way cheaper at a discount hardware store in the "cheap a$$ tool bins". You might need more than one to get through the metal though? I've never tried it, so I might be leading you down the wrong path

Actually I just foudn this as you typed it. They have bi-metal hole saws which are used for metal I believe but I read that Carbide Hole Saws are best for stainless steel. I saw a few bi-metals for like $12. I think I saw some carbide ones for around teh same price. I will also need a arbor so I can attach them to my drill. I think I am going to give them a try.

LAN party? Anyone wanna play XBox?
