Sound deaden firewall?
Question for those who have sound deadened there Scions:
How did you sound deaden the firewall? Seems like a b*tch of a place to get to.
I still have a gallon of eDead v3, and I wanted to paint some more of it on the door panels, and I remembered the firewall was another place suggested to deaden.
Also, does deadening the roof really make a difference?

Deadening the roof will make a big difference since it will reduce a great deal of wind noise. Our cars really don't have much deadening up there anyways
The firewall looks like a _____ to do imo. I wouldn't recommend using liquid for that area as well. Matting it would be a better idea but then again I don't have much experience in that area.
Have you tried deadening the wheel wells of the car? You can take out the plastic parts, spray some primer for adhesion and paint away~

Yup, painted the enitre floor, wheel wells, and the compartment with the spare tire, as well as the door panels. what a difference. I bought two gallons and only used one, so I was thinking of other places to paint/deaden.
It seems like most of the remaing noise comes from the engine. I wasn't too sure about painting this area though, I don't want to catch on fire. I guess I'll use up the gallon on the roof and on the doors themselves (under the door panels).

the edead v3 will not catch on fire it is actually flame retardant.
the best way to do it would be to completely disassemble the dash, then wrap anything you don't want it on in in tin foil, then spray away with an undercoating spray gun. Beyond that alot of time with a paintbrush would also work.

Hey guys! Is there a big difference after doing this? I've never heard of eDead and I've only ever used a small Dynamat kit for putting on the rear license plate, which worked great. Is it pretty simple to use the eDead material and is it much better than Dynamat?
edead is made by a site sponsor edesign audio, their link is on the top and bottom of every page in the ICE forum, if you go there be sure to use the coupon code for $20% off (sclifeb is the code IIRC). Their stuff is top notch at a fraction of the cost of others.
Disassembling the entire dash?!
Too...much....work...Have you ever seen how much crap is behind our dashes, let alone what a pain it would be to take apart the steering wheel!
It is supposed to come off easily, but there is so much crap to take off first and after taking off the dash.
Oh, and it does make a difference. You are just going to have to gut the car to paint the floor, and wheel wells, to make it quiet.

kgzero, Is it difficult to remove the door panels? I can see two screws towards the inside of the door. Also a screw in the door handel, remove those and just pry off? I went to a car audio shop they wanted $400 to do the doors with dynamat exterme. I'm not expecting to kill the road noise I just want to tighten the sound.

Removing the panels is pretty easy.
Before, I go on....I am not resposible for you damaging the door in anyway. Do this at your own risk. I did this on my xA, and am assuming the xB is the same.
Putting your windows down all the way may make this easier.
To take off the door panels:
1. Unscrew the..screw..LOL...that is by the hinge towards the front of the car
(actually I think this one is a fastener) , the other screw under the door handle,
and the one it that little hole in the armrest.
2. Carefully pry off the top of the door handle with a flathead screwdriver covered by
tape at the end. I am talking about the part that houses the window and door lock
switches. There are about 8 to ten claws holding this in place, don't be scared to
pry with a little force, but not too much force. Then disconnect
the...connector...LOL...from the swtiches.
3. At the bottom of the door you will notice a gap between the panel and the actual
door. Stick the screwdriver there and just pry off the bottom, mid section, top
sides of the door panel, but NOT THE ACTUAL TOP.
4. Push up on the door panel and the panel will come off.
Sorry I don't have pics. Hope this helps.
Oh, and Rivulent, there may be a point in sound deadening the roof, since I don't have a sunroof.

Waited about 1 hour, most of it was spent painting the wheel wells, and the spare tire compartment.
Then repainted everywhere I had painted the first time with a very thick coat, this time the paint stuck, since there was some paint there already.
Waited again bout 3 to 4 hours, and spent this time painting the door panels and watching a movie.
Came back, paint was not completly dry, but I stuck another semi thin coat on the floor, and thick coat on the wheel wells (sinc I figured that a lot of noise come from here).
Took all day. Plus you will have to let it dry overnight. I used up one gallon of the edead. Still have one more.
