sound deadening material
logically....wouldn't most sound damping mat'l be able to be found at a local hardware or home improvement store?? just seems like it's not something that would be used in ONLY car audio. I'm just kinda frustrated cause the price tag on all of these products that probably cost $0.0001 to manufacture per sq foot are being sold for $1 a sq.ft. this is crap!! just let me know your thoughts
True, and yes you could find sound deadening materials in home depot and the such, BUT, you're generally looking at roofing stuff like Peel n Seal. It's stinky, it falls off, and I've heard it's not easy to work with. Never used it myself.
Other products, like foam spray, work for some applications too. But those are limited.
Basically, deadening is like everything else. You can take a crappy $20 sub, and make it sound good, but it's going to take alot of effort. Just like you can take those products, not intended for auto use, and use them. But if you went with sound deadener designed with automotive uses in mind, it'll be easier.
And as for the $1/sqft...that's an awesome price, especially considering what brands like Dynamat charge.

well, it's really not THAT bad. I mean, I spent $150 on eDead v.3 liquid for my Neon. That thing had little road noise inside it and there was no interior. The doors thudded closed...it was awesome.
Really, for what you get, it's worth it....not $5/sq. ft. worth it, but definitely $.80/sq. ft.

yeah.....but then you have to apply 3 layers of the v1.0 .......at least that is the recommendation.....i don't know.....do you guys think 50 sq. ft. will be enough for my tc's trunk, doors, firewall, and under the back seat???

With a gallon, you'd get an improvement, but for the amount of effort you'd go through stripping the car and applying. Not so worth it. And actually a fair amount of R&D DOES go in to this stuff. If you'd like to see an example, go to caraudioforum.com and search for the_spacemonkey (i think that's his name) he ran all kinds of tests(yes, in a lab) on sound deadeners. And he's just a hobbyist, imagine what actual developers do.
I didn't know we get a 20%...now i'm way happy. When I get some cash I'm ordering more. I won't need lowering springs by the time I'm finished.

When I'm done, I'll tell you how much I applied to my tC.
I paid a lot for mine, but it was worth it TO ME. I didn't mind paying more than $1 per sq./ft. in order to make my econobox quieter.
IMO, considering a cai is $150-$200 and provides only a lil difference, paying the same for a quieter ride is just a different kind of modification. It may be important to some, and not for others.
There are products at Home Depot that you could use in your car, but the results will be different. The smell of tar will be very previlent, the sheets are not as plyable--and therefore harder to install--,and it weighs more.
