Default Speaker Hummmm

I hooked up my amp to the speakers in the tc and now even if radio is not on, there is a low humming sound coming from them. I dont understand how this is possible if the radio isnt even on, anyone know what the heck is goin on? I turned the gaain on the amp all the way down which reduced the hum but it is definitely still there... I have installed system in car before and didnt have this problem.

Check your ground, the reason the hum is there is because the amp is still on, you must have used the ignition wire for your remote turn on, I will also bet you used a high to low converter.

I used a wire harness that has rca outs and a remote wire out. I did not use a high to low converter. The ground is the only thing I can think of but I installed amp under passenger seat on my tc and the only place I saw to ground was where the bolt that holds the seat down screwed into the car. Any suggestions?

with the radio off, you still have humm, the remote turn on is staying on. because the amp is still on.

Allright I tried the blue wire and the gray wire on the radio and the remote turn on for my amps always turn on when I turn on the car , not the radio and there is still the humming sound even if radio is off. Does anyone know which wire to attach remote trun on and where in the heck can I ground the amp to (under front passenger seat)?

worst case get a ground loop isolater, this a last ditch thing, it might help.

Try this with the radio off.

Unplug the RCAs from the amp and see if it still hums. If it does, it's the amp. Probably the ground. Try moving the ground around to different locations until it goes away.

If the noise is gone with the RCAs unplugged, it's in the signal line. Either the RCAs themselves are picking up noise from somewhere or the "harness" is picking up noise. Try rerouting the RCAs. Make sure that none of the ends are touching metal inside the dash too.

Is the hum only there if the car is running? What type of harness are you using? Is it a factory radio or aftermarket?

I currently have a hum in my speakers, but only when the radio is on. It is the same volume no matter what i turn my head unit up. It also remains when i unplug the RCAs. My guess is my ground for the AMP.

Where are people grounding their amps in the tC. Currently mine is grounded under the rear seat on the black metal bar under there.

I disconnected the RCA's and the hum stopped so I assume its the cheap a$$ wire I used but I ordered some good shielded stuff and I hope that takes car eof the issue. Will kep ya posted and thanks for all the 411 so far.

It may be an input gain issue also. I had an aggrivating humming noise that was constant whenever the ignition was on. I turned the input gain all the way down on my equalizer and it went away considerably, but not all the way. If you're going into an equalizer or if your amp has an input gain, turn that all the way down.

I did turn the gain all the way down but like you the hum is still there even though it isnt as bad, I am hoping new better quality rca cable will do the trick, I'll post when I get it installed and of course I am putting my 15" JL audio sub in tomorrow night.

Okay I put in shielded rca cable, a ground loop isolator/noise filter and still have humming sound, any advice?

I'm guessing it's going to be the rca adapters that are giving you the noise problem. You've isolated the rca cables and a grounding issue. Next likely culprits are: the amp, or the rca adapters. If you have another amp, or can borrow a friends, swap it in there. If that makes noise as well, you know it's rca adapters.
