Sponsorship
A few years ago I had a custom built bmw3 that i took to one of the local autoshows. I wasn't even thinking about sponsors, but I had 2 representatives from different companies walk up to me and offer sponsorships (which i gladly agreed on). Now I am actually looking for a sponsor for my xA. With all the power upgrades, im running out of money and might possibly only have enough for exterior styling. So simple question.. how/where to find a sponsor for audio/video/interior ? I saw this website , suposedly if you register and pay ____ load of money they find a sponsor for you, i laughed.. if it was that easy everyone would have a sponsor lol.
It is going to be very difficult very soon to get a sponsership for a discontinued model. You need a resume showing where you have shown your car--awards--etc. You have to do the leg work.
yes, and it is very hard for the xA's in the first place due to thier lack of popularity compared to the xB and tC. Shoot, not that I've been doing any leg work, but I've not got a damn thing from anyone.
to get sponsored, your going to have to have a pretty done up car to begin with. companies wont just sponsor someone in off the streets i guess you could say. I've only recently started sending out proposals to different companies, and as you can see, my car is already fairly well along in its modification.
You need to write up a very professional proposal to send to these companies. State your intentions with the vehicle, shows you plan to attend, what you curently have done to the vehicle, etc... Ive sent proposals to MOMO and SPARCO and got responses like "Yes, we would love to sponsor you under certain conditions. You must run only our products (meaning you cant run SPARCO shift ***** and MOMO pedals)." They would only offer discounts on all parts and require them to be on your car for so long. You had to provide proof of attending the carshows you promised to be in, and you had to attend no matter what or get your sponsorship yanked and charged full price for the parts.
Just find a company that works for you and try alot of different ones.

As somebody who actually deals with sponsorship request proposals all the time- it's important to give a professional presentation. Some of the criteria I consider when I review a proposal are:
Relevance of the vehicle- I'm not gonna sponsor something that doesn't fit my company's image.
Prior media coverage- If you've gotten some press or coverage in the past, it'll give me an idea of what you're capable of getting in the future. If you've never receved any coverage, you're gonna have to work harder to convince me you deserve the sponsorship.
Expected shows- I don't consider the local burger joint to be a sufficient show- you've gotta be willing to attened some regional / major shows and plan on showing the vehicle for at least a year.
I'd also reccomend asking shops and smaller manufacturers for sponsorship opportunities- they're more willing to provide discounts or free products (since they don't get requests as often) than huge companies.
And don't even mess with those online car sponsorship sites. For the 'nominal' fee they'll sponsor you with some 'free' decals. While it is possible to get some product, the odds are against you winning one of 5 radios / turbos / set of wheels when you're being selected at random amongst tens of thousands of other people.
