Default Stealth sub box

Has anyone taken out their "secret" storage bin and made a custom 10" sub enclosure in that space? I want to do that using either a JL 10W3V2 or an Alpine Type R 10".

I've taken the measurements at 22"X14"X7" The only problem I'm seeing so far is that both subs I want to use are 6" deep or more. I was thinking that I could just fiberglass the bottom of the enclosure to give myself some more room for the sub, but I am not very well versed in making fiberglass sub boxes. Any opinions and or help would be greatly appreciated. Pix are always a bonus as well!! Thanks in advance everyone.

why dont you try looking up free air subs.... depends on what you look at most of them are just a good at the JL or the Alpine, with the same specs.

I know that in my car ( Tiburon) I thru 8" subs in the door panals, and they are free air subs..... i use them as mids, connected thru an EQ.

So basically what im trying to tell you work with what you have, and if you search right it will be better or just as good as what you want to do for more money and alot more work.

A free-air or infinite baffle sub setup won't work real well in a car without a trunk. Fiberglass isn't really all that tough to work with, there is a wealth of info out on the interweb. The main thing to keep in mind with fiberglass is to mask it off really well and plan your preparation well. I am thinking about doing something similar. Mark

Zach, you gotta hear the set-up I've been running the past two years. I have Arc 10 inch subs under my front seats.

to answer your question=yes, a lot of people have mounted a sub in the storage area or spare tire area. generally used fiberglass. I have never worked with it, but there are plenty of sites that offer basic instructions on how to create the mold, and the steps involved. It doesn't sound that difficult.

Yup.

You want to see someone who really used the bin spaces to max effect-

-Cargo mat covers it all when needed, pretty slick.

Some guy in Scion Dynasty, I think he's from Gainesville. Pretty sweet. The plexiglass panel is frosted and backlit with a silver bB logo behind it, very cool in person. It's a custom one-off job.

Squirrel, I heard that you were running an enclosure like I want, but I haven't been able to make it down to Tracy to see your setup. You going to the D1 this weekend?

To everyone else, thanks for your input. What I think I'm going to do is to make a part fiberglass, part MDF box. My only question is how do I join the fiberglass panels to the MDF panels? Can you just use wood screws and then silicone the hell out of the inside seams or what? Thanks in advance for any and all info guys.

A "Free-Air" subwoofer would not work in a small sealed enclosure....that would be the opposite of "free-air". There is actually no such thing as a "free-air" speaker. The term you're looking for is "infinite baffle" which would also not work well in this situation if you wanted it to behave like a subwoofer.

The last pic is obviously from a system owned by someone with excellent taste.
