Default steering wheel controls for the Tc

Has anybody thought about or tried to add steering wheel controls for the stereo. I know this isn't a feature that is currently out there but I think it would be a nice touch for the Tc.

I'm a fan of steering wheel controls, but not a fan of stock stereos. So this does no good for me.

my only reason for steering wheel controls would be so that I could control the radio with the faceplate down. it looks cleaner with the "door" closed, but then you're stuck with the station/volume. Eh, if that's all I have to complain about, I'm happy.

One thing I was thinking about is that most of the newer head units come with a remote control.

Now, if this is a line of sight remote control you're kinda screwed. But if its not line of sight, you could disassemble the remote control and attempt to fit it into another set of plastics and mount it to the steering wheel. I plan on doing that whenever I get around to doing audio stuff.

Its going to be a few months, but I'll let you know how it goes.

Or just buy a head unit that comes with a steering wheel mountable remote control and not waste 20 hours of your time.

what really sucks is that they have NO plans to support the '05 tC's.. kind of hurts the idea that they were promoting about "customizable" doesn't it?

personally with the stock headunit i would've liked the steering mounted controls.. but what happens when i rip out the radio and put an alpine in? those controls are dead! even an aftermarket has an input for an AUX jack..

my complaint is sure it has a volume ****, but instead of putting it on the left (closest to your hand) they put it int he middle.. one of the poorest places to put it.. personally i'll just go get an alpine and won't have to worry about the stock deck and it's 2005 model limitations..

Yeah it's what finally hit me when i really thought about what they upgraded.. Even if someone were to buy the 2006 headunit, it would cost almost as much as, if not more than a good alpine..

if they were to have upgraded like the wheels, engine or transmission, something functional like that.. then i would've been ____ed.. but as it is.. most of us are taking out the headunit anyway..

are there any aftermarket units that have controls on the steering wheel? I am a tall guy, long arms, it's too easy to reach the dash.. lol didn't even think about steering controls..
