Default Sub Enclosure in the rear cargo area.

I am interested in having a sub enclosure built for the rear cargo area in the space to the right of the spar tire compartment. I know that this has been talked about in the past and that there is $500+ enclosure on the market that sits flush in the rear cargo area space next to the spare tire. I measured the area without the foam insert and it is approximately (all of the edges and the floor are not exactly even) 6" deep 22" long and 14" wide. If I wanted to have constructed an enclosed sub box for one 10" or possible two 8", would this be enough room assuming I wanted the speakers to be flush with the floor of the back area? If not how far above the floor do think I would have to come up? I am not looking for huge base here and just want something that sounds nice and fills in the base for the front speakers. What would be a reasonable price to pay for this (without sub included). Any suggestions on what sub might fit this would be appreciated as well. Would I be better off going with the Scion Tube aftermarket instead? Thanks.

Minsk. Here is what I did.

I placed a sealed enclosure where the storage used to be and cut the factory floor to match the placement of the sub. Then I put the factory floor back on top with the hole cut out and I was finished. Persoanlly, for a small fee of about $125.00 I am quite happy with what I have. I was much more willing to spend $125.00 than 500+.

In the enclosure is a 10" Memphis M-Class sub. It sounds great. NOT tons of bass, but enough for what I was looking for.

I did ths same thing my measurements are about the same as your. so cubic ft would be about .63 without the sub. I don't have the exact measurements in front of me because I am at work. But yeah I am going to be building my own. pretty similiar to the spfr. I will be using mdf and fiberglass so it is very strong. The sub will be using is a JL Audio 10W6AE. Mounting depth is only 4.75". Everyone knows how jl are espescially W6s. I would have gone with an w6v2 but mounting depth is to long. Well I'll post pics when I get started.

I thought about cutting the stock cargo cover to but just incase I messed up it would cost 235 to get a new cargo cover. So I didn't want to do it. Yours looks very nice what did you use to cut it. Is there any rattling when it the sub hits?

I personally would not go with the Tube you can get the same thing 10 times cheaper at Circuit City or Best Buy. I'm running 2 KEF 8's in a false floor where the spare was, and then my JL Amps on the other side. Depending on the Sub you buy will dictate how many Cubic Feet you will need to run the Sub properly. I can take pics of my set up if you would like to see how its done. The false floor is completely redone and sits at factory hieght. Throw the floor mat down and you can't even tell that there is a difference unless you looked real real close. My KEF 8's sound damn good with a JL 250X1 pushing them. One thing to remember is your not trying to push the sound wave through a set so the sound wave will be able to complete much sooner. Thats why when you roll down your windows the bass sounds louder becuse the wave wsa able to complete. Hope this helps and if you would like some pics let me know.

Yeah, I took the risk and cut away. I used just an electric saw and cut a circular hole, the edges were a little rough so I then cut a small metal ring to put around the edge to clean it up.

Hey Jeff,

How tall is your enclosure and did you use 1/2" or 3/4" MDF to make it? I am deliberating between making an enclosure such as this or making one for under the driver & passenger seats.

i want to make my enclosure in the storage compartment thing too, its for an IDQ d4 v2.. i also heard that you gain dB's when the sub is faced backwards.

so i want to use the space and have the sub come up out of the floor at an angle... anyone have any ideas why this might not work? otherwise i'm going to have a crack at it..
