Default Sub mounting depth question...should be easy

I need help. Ok so I'm looking at a sub with a mounting depth of 5.5 inches. And I'm looking at a custom box for the xb that has a max mounting depth of 5.75 inches. Is the .25 inches of clearance going to cause any issues with sound or anything? Its a seal box by the way. Thanks in advanced for the help.

You will not have a problem! If it will make you feel better make a 3/4 MDF spacer and slap that in a you will be fine.

Just had someone ask me that this morning.

Depends on the woofer. If it had a vented pole, you might want a little more space than that for it to breathe. Should still work, but wouldn't be cooling to it's full potential.

I would recomend at least 3/4" at the bottom especially if they are JL's or any other big name....

Why do you say that? "Big name" whats that have to do with it?

I'll be putting a Elemental Designs 13Kv.2 sub in a sealed box a little less than 1 cft in the storage space. If that helps anyone help me

So it WAS you ;)

Realistically, it doesn't matter who makes the sub. If it's vented through the motor, you should have clearance about as much as the vent width. 13Kv.2, you'd want around 3/4" - 1", the 1/4" would be cutting it kinda close.

He meant Big Name Brand Sub, I think! It will work great! I am also goin to do the same sub and enclosure as you in the future! Front stage will come first.

No problem.

Let me know what the dimensions you have to work with in there...not too familiar with the storage compartment on the xB, and I could draw you something up.

Hey Chris=Mandos

What do you think of the box on Ebay BurnOut was going to use for the XB? I emailed the person and he said it was a CF of 1.2, so would the 13Kv.2 be OK for this or should it be CF of 1.0.

Burnout, The first time he told me 1.50 and the 1.20, so who know's! I think he just gets them from someone else and sells them. Maybe some peeps from AZ know this guy. Anyway you could just use some fiber fill to fill in the area a little.

i'm not worried about the size...i'm worried about the lack of depth. as above states ^^

Yea I understand that! Time to break out the MDF and make some spacers. I have also seen MDF spacers in 5/8 sold on eBay.

What I was thinking on doing was I have the black carpet mat for the back, I was thinking on cutting a hole in it and have someone sew up the edges. I also will do the amp the same way. I think it will look cool and with the Scion emblem on the mat it will look stock. I just am wodering how the 13Kv.2 will sound in this box.

John,

Should be fine...of course, it'd be nice to know how big it is

Good thing is, you could always add something to take up space if it's too large. Larger box + 13Kv.2=kinda boomy exaggerated low end. 1 Cube would be perfect but it seems this guy can't measure.

Thanks Chris,

I was just thinking the same, maybe some fiber fill if it is too large?
