Default Subs turn off

hey guys/gals...question:
I'm runnin two song x-plod 10" subs (700watts/250RMS)...i'm running a two channel...250/ch...amp...

now...when ever i go pass 40 on volume...(stock stereo)...and i have my bass to -5...the subs turn off...

does anyone have any idea why? the speakers are new...

now, a friend suggested to run a 4 gage power wire...i guess instead of an 8...how can you tell the difference? will it make a difference?

whats the subs ohm 4 or 2? dvc or svc?
how are they connected to the amp
what type of amp

sounds to me like the subs are throwing the amp into protection because they might be wired to a ohm load the amps not stable for

as for the power wire yes you'll notice a difference running 4 ga over 8ga wire what your amp fused at?

it sounds like your subs are pullin too much power and so the amp automatically shuts down too keep from blowin the speakers...youll have to change some settings on the amp or get a bigger one

well who connected up the subs for you?

take the sub out and look for a seriel # or model # then do a google search and that should get you some of the information

second how are the subs wired to the amp?

i can't really see how everythings hooked up but more than likly your running a lower ohm load than your amp can handle and its going into protection

which this is a easy fix just rewire the subs

dvc is 2 voice coils meaning 2 positives and negitives per sub
svc is 1 voice coil meaning 1 positive and negitive per sub

also whats the brand/model # of your amp

if you need hit me up on aim

Subs dont pull power. They take what you give it..

Like what xBofMNx it seems like an impedance issue. Sounds like running 2 4ohm speaker in parallel in bridge mode... Unless its an amp that is 2 ohm mono stable , its going to put it in protection.

8 gauge should be fine for a 250 watt amp. Check your ground also.

What kind of amp is it?

Yeah, it's probably a load issue. How is it hooked up to the amp? Is each sub indivually hooker up to separate channels on the amp(4 speaker wires going into the amp), or is there only 2 speaker wires into the amp(bridged mono)?

It could be that it's in bridged mono, and the amp can't handle that load(probably 2 ohms).

Did you install it yourself?
