Subwoofer / Amp Question with Stock Pioneer
i have a stock headunit in my 05 tC. i have the line out converter connected to the rear speakers, i think i got it for like $5 on ebay. my bass sounds just as good as it did in my old car that had a pioneer premier headunit. it's the same sub and amp from my old car.
i think the stock speaker are sufficient in most cases. i don't listen to crap super loud, i like clarity more than a huge bass beat. i did end up replacing the rear speakers with a set of fusion 6.5" components with tweeters...honestly, the components sound as good as the rear stock speakers...the components have a little more treble, thats it! i had one component set installed on one side and a stock speaker on the other side to do my test...
i think some people just go crazy and hate knowing that they have stock speakers...it's not that bad if you don't need it super loud.
also, make sure you SSP setting is set to either xA or xB. don't put it on the tC setting. the xA setting has a little more high range than the xB setting

mandos what about adding additional subwoofers and amps to an existing stock head unit with the bazooka accessory in the back of an xA? alternatively have an alpine head unit with 6 disc changer that is 8 years old but the system was kick'n for the day. what do ya think...much respect

i actually used the stock head unit for the subs installation on my car and the outcome was/is good. I rigged the power line straight to the battery with a fuse and rigged the amp power to a switch. So I utilize the subs whenever I want. Rockford Fosgate amp with Illuminite subs..I know ___ subs, but atleast it works for now.

These are Line Output Converters.

There really isn't much to these, other than some wire, a couple of shielded RCAs, a transformer and resistor. That being said, paying significantly more for a name brand is kind of pointless. If you absolutely must have a name brand, then go with Stillwater. Stillwater Designs is Kicker.
LOCs are pretty basic to install. You need to run the speaker wires to the LOC, then attach the RCA jacks of the LOC to the RCA cables leading to your amplifier's input(s). There is usually a ground wire from the LOC. They are not absolutely necessary, but it is not a bad idea to connect the ground wire to the radio frame or ground. This grounds the shield for the RCAs, reducing the possibility of noise. To cut down on wires running everywhere, most installers choose to install the LOCs behind the radio. This way, the only cabling that needs to run from the radio to the amplifier is the RCAs.
If you are using the amp for a subwoofer, then you will probably want to tap the LOC into the rear speakers rather than the front. Remember, you want to "T" the LOC into the speaker wires rather than just cutting the wires off and running them to the LOC. If they are not "T"ed in, then the rear speakers will get no signal.
The wire colors for the rear speakers of the xB are as follows:
Left +: Black
Left -: Yellow
Right +: Red
Right -: White
The ground for the radio, in case you choose to tap the LOC's ground into it, is White w/ Black stripe.
Hope this helps.
