Default Subwoofer help please....

OK, audio newbie here and I need a 10" sub. The enclosure that's being used has 1.5 cubic inch internal volume and houses a single 10" sub. I have a cheapo fosgate amp (I think it's model 200r??) that I believe is rated at 300 watts. I'd like to use it, but if not, another amp is not out of the question. I'm looking to spend somewhere south of $200 on the sub. As far as musical taste, it really varies but I'd be leaning more towards boomy rap stuff.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. :D

Thanks, I'll play cat and mouse with the boss this morning and look through the site when he's not looking.

I'd stick with:

elemental design, JL, Resonant Engineering, TREO, Boston, Kicker, CDT, Rockford, Crossfire....

whatever floats your boat though.... I know elemental design has great product quality and SQL...not to mention awesome customer service and a 3 year warranty

Is the Orion h2 sub worth looking at? I realize that I'd have to get a different amp to power it but I want something that looks as good as it performs.

Actually, I've got a short list of subs that have caught my eye. You comments are greatly appreciated....

naturally the JL is a great choice....

I've not used the Orions or PG's, but from what I've heard lately, the Orions are pretty B-A!.... you'll need to make sure you've got enough mounting depth in the enclosure for whatever sub you get.... and don't forget to match up your ohm loads...

Thanks, the enclosure was made specifically for a JL10w7 (I don't know what the specs are) but I don't want to spend that much on the sub so I'm looking into other, more cost effective options.

So if I go with the Orion h2, what would be a budget amp that could run it nicely? I'm drawn to the Orion mainly because of the look of the sub but I'm afraid that a sufficient amp would break the bank.

Ok, so now I got it narrowed to the Orion h2, the JLw3v2, and the eD.

Looks like this amp would push that H2 10" perfectly... it's 1300RMSx1 @ 2ohm which is what you'd need with the dual 4ohm Orion sub....

Thanks a lot for the link. Ok, so for pure visual impact, I'm leaning towards the Orion.

I was hoping to get everything installed today since the painter is done with the enclosure now, but I guess I'll have to order the amp and wait. Would I be able to use the fosgate amp for a few days while the other amp is shipped over or would I be risking damage to the sub?

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

It's a Fosgate amp, I believe the model # is p2002. Not absolutely sure, but I think this is it.

That amp would work, but you'd only be able to get 50 watts per coil to the sub (stereo 4 ohm).... wouldn't do ya much good.... plus it'd be easy to overdrive the amp and possibly blow the sub or amp...

Ouch, so probably better off waiting for the correct amp before installing everything then.

Geez, now I'm tempted to go with the JL just so I can get everything installed today. I hate my impatience....wait a minute, would the 10w3v2 even be ok with that fosgate amp?

^^ well, the 10w3 would need to be a dual 2 ohm to work properly with that amp.... and even then, the sub could use a little more power.....

the output of the Orion H2 will be WELL worth the wait if you're looking for the louder boom...

Ok, I think that I'm going to go with the Orion/Hifonics combo per your recommendations. Again, thanks for the help.

Got another question. Would anything else need upgrading? ie: alternator, battery, capacitor install?? Just trying to add everything up...

I know you probably already have your mind made up, but check out Diamond Audio and Image Dynamics, while you are checking out other subs.

I'm looking at the amps that could potentially be used for the Orion sub. Geez, the thing is a monster. Thanks RT, I'll definitely look into the Diamond and Image Dynamics stuff. I really want to decide and order today if I can so I'll be researching this stuff all morning and afternoon.......the boss is out of the office!

If you are going for looks, I love the look of the new Memphis stuff. I saw it posted in here the other day, and it looks great. Lots or people really seem to like their amps as well.

Yeah, I know it sounds lame but the looks matter a lot because of the way the sub is going to be mounted. Memphis is on the list. Thanks.
