Default System wiring advice____>anything missing?

Hello,

I just bought some great wiring gear from www.knukonceptz.com

Kolossus Kable 4 Gauge Blue Power Wire - 2ft

Kolossus Kable 8 Gauge Blue Power Wire - 36 ft

Kolossus Kable 8 Gauge Silver Power Wire - 5 ft

KonFUSED 2 Way Distribution System - (50A,50A)

Klear Kable Blue 12 Gauge Speaker Wire - 8 ft

Klear Kable Blue 16 Gauge Speaker Wire - 30 ft

Klarity 2 Channel RCA Kable 5M - x2

Kolossus Kable 18 Gauge Blue Primary Wire - 30 ft

I am wiring together a Blaupunkt Monterey HU with eDi 6000s componnents and a 11Ov.2 sub powered by 2 NINe.2 amps.

I am going Battery>>4awg>>Distro/fuse block>>8awg>>NINe.2>>8awg Ground
>>8awg>>NINe.2>>8awg Ground

I know I still need to get some crimp connections...how many do I need and what size?

Also some heat shrink tubing and cable ties....anything else I am missing?

Thanks for the input.

yaay...

what about how many crimp connectors do I need...this is my first car audio install...so I am unsure of that..

also, do I need anything special to connect the 4 gague power wire to the battery? or will just a crimp ring connector do the trick?

thanks,

-tyler

ring connecter should work fine for the battery...and 2 more(8ga) for the grounds to find a home in some bolts in the chassis... gound them to the same point so you don't get loop interference, that'll ____ you off...hehe... also, keep the grounds under 3ft. long..

I don't see any glaring absences or anything but I do find myself wondering why you chose to terminate/fuse the 4AWG so close to the battery? I would probably have ran the 4AWG as far back as I could and then terminated to 8AWG. The larger cabling you can have the better in terms of power transfer. Heck I run 1/0 for less than 500 watts of power. To answer what you would need I would say some nice crimp or screw on terminals from any reputable manufacturer (Stinger, PG, Tsunami, etc.) and you'll be good to go. I would think you'd need a 4AWG ring connector to the battery, four (2 red, 2 black) 8AWG spades to go to the power inputs on the amps, 2 12AWG spades to go to the amp (perhaps more depending on how you connect to the sub), and lastly some 16 and 18 AWG spades for speaker and remote turn-on leads. indeed, bigger gauge for the run to the back would have been a better choice... I didn't even notice that initially

terminating the four gague close to the batt was a tough descision...

I did it for two reasons....money, and money :D

I have the Car Stereo Cookbook by Mark Rumreich and in it he lists two options...

1) the standard: 4awg (or whatever big wire) from batt to an inline fuse within 1 ft>>to 4awg run to the back of the car (or whereever)>>>to a distro box>>>to 8awgx2(or whatever again)>>to individual amps

2) the way I am doing it

The money saving advantage of #2 is no need to buy an additional inline fuse holder...just use a fused distro box within 1 ft of the batt...and also the 8awg cable was cheaper per ft. than the 4awg...even when you consider that I am running twice the length.... not a huge difference, but im trying to save money...

in the long run I may wish I had gone different....but if I ever add another amp, it will be a NINe.1 and ill run 1/0 awg wire....and ill be richer :D

I know my amps will get less power, but I *should* be ok

anyway...ill let you know how it goes and post picks....got my eD stuff today...now just waiting on the amp and wiring...ohh yeah and the bloody car from the dealership...thats what I get for wanting a manual.

I would guess you'll be all right and since you've already got the stuff you might as well use it. Personally I prefer "knowing" I won't have power issues rather than I "should" be okay. Good decision on getting the manual. I have one too and it took a bit to get but for the majority of my driving it's been a pretty good choice. I wish that fifth gear would allow the motor to operate at a lower RPM at freeway speeds but even with the tach. near 4K I still get close to 30 MPG. Mark

w/o having a Nine.1 involved, you WILL be OK on 2 long 8 awg runs.

It is definitely cheaper to go that route as well

Personally, I just like the chore of running 4 1/0 awg wires

Yeah, ring terminal on the battery...not a problem at all.

oh, one more question I remembered....should the one fuse in the distro block be fine and then the amps have fuses in them...I dont need any more fuses in line do I?

:D

thanks,

as long as the dis. block has a big enough fuse for both amps, you'll be golden!

I asked my father in law about this (hes an electrician)....the distro block I got is this one:

http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDe...?prodID=KNF-12

And what it looked like to me is that this distro box holds two fuses.....one for each "channel" or circut or whatever

and in that case I would need a 50 amp fuse for each circut

he agreed.....

is that correct?

thanks again for all the help....sposed to get my wiring on thursday and my hu on friday...then ill start posting pics :D
