Technical electronic wiring question
I am getting ready to install some LED VIP lights onder my car. I want the lights to come on with the dome light but I also want to have a switch to turn them on. I realize thet if I wired both of these to the lights then when I turn on the switch it would also turn my domelight on. to solve this problem I have purchased some blocking diodes and I thought I had it all figured out but when I started looking into our complex domelight wiring system I am having trouble figuring out wihch wires to tap into. I also do not know if I should make my lights positive(+) or negative(-) switched.
If someone could come up with a wiring system that would work I would appreciate it. I have also thought about using a relay and having the dome light activate the relay but it would eliminate the fade off and my lights would just click off when the relay selonoid dropped below it's specs. I would like to have the lights fade off with the domelight if possible.

Ok I have been thinking about this more. if I wire the positive of the lights to a constant hot (+) then I can make the lights neutral (-) switched. I can splice the red w/yellow stripe wire from the dome light and wire a resistor to let negative through and connect it to the negative input on the lights, and on the switch I can run a constant 12 volts (+) to one terminal and wire the other terminal to the negative of the lights.
Will this work?
