Default those with painted interior

so i did mine some... 7 months ago i want to say?

i don't know about anyone else, but i've having bubble and pealing problems. i was just getting ready to install a 400watt power inverter and i started pulling panels and noticed considerable bubbling on several and signs of bubbling on the other pieces.

not sure if it's due to all the heat or if the paint didn't dry properly... i'm not sure, but i'm going to have to do it all over again.

i was thinking of getting some like bed liner for durability and then put a think coat of black over the top and then clear coat. was thinking of doing this to all my paneling and just having it all hard core and tough.

so there are three options that i can think of... Rhino, which is durable but not too tough and is pretty soft in the heat. LineX, which is durable and very strong but i don't know how it will deal with some 120-140 degrees inside of the vehicle during a hot day... and last, there is that Hercules stuff that you paint/roll your self, but i haven't heard of it's strengths or weaknesses... the paint and clear coat over the top *if the liner doesn't come out to be the right color, if it does, then only clear coat* is to help keep the surfaces clean and prevent dirty from settling in the pores lining.

i'm doing this both for it's toughness and texture like look. what do you all think?

I've had my interior pieces (pillars, headliner, handle, visors, rearview) painted black for almost a year now and it's holding up great.

Did you allow the paint enough time to fully cure before you applied the clear coat?

I build scale model cars and have had the same issue. If you don’t allow the paint to cure and then lay the clear over top the paint will never properly dry. Add the temps you are talking about and paint bubbling will occur.

The worst part is this will not get any better until you strip them and repaint.

As for the bed liner idea I would be worried that it would add a fair bit of weight to each panel, and weather or not the panel clips would be able to hold it up.

I would just strip them, reprime them, paint and clear hem all over again.

Either way it will require some work.

it's just 2-part polyethylene paint. it's not like the rubbery stuff of Rhino and whatnot, LineX is actually pretty nice. it's the same compound thats used on live audio cabinets.

now that i did think about it, i did put the clear coat on the within about an hour period of doing the actually paint... damn...

I used high temp engine paint that i had left over and it holds up nice and has a shine to and it looks good.
