Default touch screen LCD mounting in xB "oven"

hello all, i recently bought a touchscreen LCD and thought to install it where the "oven" is since the size is pretty much the same. i've seen pics of people installing stereo in them but not sure how they have mounted in. can anyone shed some light as to how they did it? few questions below if anyone can help...

1. should i include the sleeve in the mount?
2. how was the unit (with or without sleeve) mounted?
3. was the "oven" deep enough or cutting was needed to fit the stereo / flip lcd?

not sure what else i need to know but if there are anything else i should watch out for, any suggestions are appreciated.

thanks all...

I needed to cut the back off the pocket.
I also didnt use the cage and just mounted the bolts right through the 'oven' and into my headunit.
It was actually pretty easy and I love that i dont have to bring my faceplate with me and i can just close the door..
Not the greatest pic, but, you get the idea:

K_Dawg_ONE, thanks for the info. so you needed to cut the back of the 'oven' for the head unit to "protrude"? how much space do you have left after cutting the back?

it's nice to know it can be mounted straight on to the 'oven'. convenient. and knowing it is in "stealth" certain is a peace of mind...

thanks again for the info, K_Dawg_ONE!

No problem man!
I found I had only about 1" or so behind th h/u once it was mounted. You may actually have to push some of the dash wires out of the way to get enough clearance, but it will for fine!
Also, the oven will be a VERY snug fit when pushing it back into place...dont be afraid to use a tad bit of muscle!

Oh, and you will notice that the oven actually 'tapers' towards the back. It will prolly be trial and error as to how much you need to cut. I only mention this so you know its more than just the back 'wall'...lol

Good info. Thanks K Dawg.

I'm doing something along the same lines. My quetion is: How difficult was it to route the wires from where the original head unit was down to the oven?

It was very easily actually. From what I recall, the OEM wires were just zip tied (i think!) in place. Whatever it was, lol, I just PULLED them down from up top to where I wanted it to be...there isnt ALOT of slack, but, it will reach (especially after you add your a/m wiring harness)

Good to hear. So to pull this all off, all I should really have to do is take off the center console piece, take out the stock unit, and take out the oven, right? Once I have all those out I should be able to reach in there and pull the wiring down, or will I have to take out more of the dashboard guts to do so? I've only had my center piece out once, and that was just to have it out and see what's what.

I disassembled the Xenarc touch screen and fiber glassed the bezel into the dash piece and then reassembled the Xenarc touch screen back into the bezel. You do have to cut the factory dash piece to fit properly and make sure you keep the bezel level any twist might cause the touch screen to not function properly.

Hope this helps,

A new enough screen will probably work fine. I used an Alpine CVA-1000, like 8 years old. Rather than a thin screen about a third the thickness of the whole unit, nearly the entire inside of the chassis slides out. Had to cut a bit more out of the bottom of the pocket to get the angle right to clear the door. But you should have it easy enough.

This isn't a cubby mounted touch screen but anyways...

You gotta see what this kid did...

Props for the ingenuity. And it's all removable and hidable!
