If you want to modify the stock flasher to work with LED bulbs see my writeup in https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=132513

That should give you some ideas. Too bad that the CF18-08 doesn't seem to work. If it did, that woudl make LED conversions much easier. maybe you just have a bad one?

Yeah maybe. The way it acts is just really strange. I'm going to try and exchange it and see how that does.

I just dug up the load resistors that came with the LED bulbs and used the wire taps that came with them. So easy and cheaper, plus they work. Only problem is they get really hot so I would reccomend mounting them on something metal away from anything else.

so 19LED is the largest bulb that will fit inside the XB sockets for turn signals/reverse etc...?

I believe the 19 was what I got for my aftermarket headlights, and in order to get them to fit I had to bake and pull apart the headlight housing and put the bulbs in from the front, because they were too big to fit in from behind.

bump...

I just bought LED bulbs for my rear turn signals from autolumination.com and also ordered the LED flasher unit that was listed for "newer Toyota models."

I've tried searching all of the LED threads, and I'm seeing people say that this LED flasher doesn't work right. Is that the final answer about it?

I tried putting mine in, and the right turn signal does not flash (but I still hear the flasher unit clicking). I was wondering what the latest answer was with this in case I just need to return the flasher unit for a new one?

I hate to ask this, but are you sure you put it in the right way? Did you reverse it to see what happens?

It only snaps in one way if I remember correctly, and I had the same problem and ended up returning mine.

Bump. Has anyone else tried either of the flasher units from autolumination or superbrightleds and had them work right? The tech writeup recommends the unit from autolumination. If it doesn't work, maybe that should be edited?

Since there was no reply, I took the plunge and ordered a flasher unit from autoluminations and just installed it. It works like a charm on my '06 xA.

As a side note, I put white flashers for the front turn signals since it was already amber around the bulb, thinking I would match up what was there before. It works fine, but I would have been happier with amber LEDs there. With white it looks even more like a yolk and doesn't match the coloring of the side markers.

note... always use the same color LED as the lenses they are behind. besides clear of course.

hopefully the white you got was more of a warm white if anything. i cant imagine like 6000k "white" shining through and amber lens :-(

hey we live and we learn!! now you know for next time

It just looks a lot more yellow than amber. And I got the 3 Watt kind that has 3 large LEDs rather than the tower type. I think the tower type would be better for everything all around. It gives you a wider angle for reflection as well as lots of point of light the look cooler reflected as well. As you said - Live and learn.

Evidently Autolumination changed their LED supplier. When I changed over to their bulbs/flasher, all were dead shorted to ground. They sent me a BS e-mail stating that the XB was "wired backwards" and that I'd have to change the wires in their sockets. These are standard bulbs.....they lie.

When it comes to the directional signals then the polarity shouldn't matter. It is a single filament dual-terminal bulb. LED or incandescent should work the same way.

But I seem to recall when I replaced the stop/parking light bulbs with LED ones I ran into a problem. Those have 4-terminals. With incandescent bulbs the polarity and common terminals do not matter as all 4 contacts are isolated. But the way the LED bulbs are designed is that they act as 3-terminal devices. They assume that two of the terminals will be common. And on xB the common is not the same as what is common in the lightbulb (or other vehicles). I recall having to modify the LED bulb's terminals to get it to work properly.

LED= Light Emitting Diode. A diode is a one way electrical "valve". Polarity matters

the polarity most definitely matters with LEDs. they are not a filament bulb.

you need to have positive(+) to positive and negative(-) to negative for them to function.

Ok, So I ordered the CF18-08 Flasher Unit from Superbrightleds.com and it worked just perfectly. No problems at all.
I only changed out my front turn signals with "switchbacks" from Autoillumination.com.
