Default TV in headrest or overhead?

what are benefits of having monitor overhead or in headrest?

and also cost? which one is cheaper?

Also, where do you put the dvd player? and can you watch regular television on those things?

Thanks for any info.

well I am debating the same thing. The headrest seems like the best option for the money. I guess it depends though I already have my TV's so if you are buying the stuff new it is about the same price to do either so its preference. as far as the dvd player you can get an in dash or a changer it just depends on again what you want.

Just remember your deck has to be able to control TV's. Think it through before you rush into anything and shop around the hour drive to tampa or wherever maybe worth it.

the higher the monitors are mounted the more likely watching passengers will be to get motion sickness, beyond that - whatever you want - your car - you decide.

Well, i was thinking for MYSELF more then passangers :-)
i am thinking overhead is better because when you lay down you can actually watch it ... and with headrest? i guess i will not be able to take headrest out at all since wires will be going thru a seat, right??? (forgot about that)

Ok, then overhead is only option for me :-)

but also yuo said something about deck controling tv ... does that mean i will need new radio also???

Janky ... are you saing that you install those things? you said hour to tampa so i am under this impression. If you are, can you give me price quote? my e-mail is agi_jw@yahoo.com)

Thank you everyone

I just recently had an overhead monitor (10.5") and PS2 system installed in my XB. The PS@ system will play CD's, PS2 games and DVD and you wil not need a seperate DVD player. parts cost breakdown was PS2 system = $150, overhead monitor = $650, misc. parts (fm modulator, wireless headphones, ect.) = $200 and install = $300. (prices are from memory and not exact)

fm mod. attaches to antena cable just behind radio and does not require a new stereo. To listen to PS2 or DVD through radio, you tune radio to a specified station and radio will play audio. Wireless headphones work independant of radio and work regardless of radio setup.

I had my work done at a small shop just north of I-4 on OBT called Audio Sound Factory, not a very well known shop, but they do good work and use quality equip.

This was a very complicated install and I was not comfortable doing it myself.

Ultimate Audio is just down the street from this shop and also do excellent work, but are a little more pricey, but have a better selection of parts ect.

Good luck and hope to see you around some time.

Xmas is coming up!! Put it on your wish list.

Don't forget to play lotto tonight!! (60 million would fix an XB up real good)

Hope to see you around soon, Scion Dynasty meets every two weeks on Sat. nights at Dennys on Kirkman Road just north of Universal Studios. (this weekend)

Not sure why? I thought $650 was good for a 10.5" overhead monitor. Bigger is better if you are going overhead. Headrest monitors are much less, but I did not check into those when I was looking. Whatever you decide to do, shop around.

If you can wait until the next car show, or club meet, look at some other XB's and what others have done and most of the time people will let you sit in thier cars and check out thier systems. Most likely someone else has done exactly what you want to do and they have worked out all the bugs and can point you in the direction with the best deals. I am very impulsive when it comes to buying things and just get what I like and find out later that it could have been had much cheaper for same thing.

If you trust buying on-line, crutchfield has great deals on equipment, but then you need to find some to install for you.

you can find DECENT screens from 150 - 300 Per for a screen that will fit nicely in the scion headrests... probably anywhere fron 5.4 - 6.5 depending on how thick the frames are... some have squeezed slightly bigger like 7 inchers but they tend to stretch the headrest a bit... you can also buy replacements headrests like myron and davis headrests...

most shops will charge anywhere from 75 - 200 to install a single headrest... shop around, and don't always go by the cheapest shop... make sure you see there work first...

I saw a ad in Sound Advice sale paper today for a 7" overhead, dvd player and headphones for $399 (Audiovox). Sounds like what you were looking for at the right price.

I have a 7.2inch flip down from head liner and a dvd,mp3,cd, player all in one and only paid like$260 total for both and it looks great. EBAY is the only way to buy stuff for your car. Oh ya $150.00 for installation of both the indash player and over head unit. So that adds up to about $410.00 for everything needed to play dvds in car

I opt for overheads because 5.4 was too small for what i wanted and 7" are too big without reworking the head rest. I ended up doing 2 12.1" in a fiberglass housing that I used to flush the monitors in.Here is a pic.

Denzinz it does look great but not everyone has $30,000.00 to put into a $15,000.00 car. You have done a great job on the XB though I will give you that. I am slowly working on mine now. The next step for me is interior, and then paint. I was at Nopi this year and only saw one that would give you any competition. Keep up the good work.
