Default unhooking speedometer

Has anyone unhooked their speedometer cable, and if so, how hard or successful was it?

I highly doubt its possible. the ABS and Trac sensors keep the speed of all 4 wheels, stored in the computer. the days of a single "cable" is gone!

If you mean the one that connects to the gauge cluster, it's easy.

Yeah if you are refering to the wire harness connecting to the guages, then yes it is very simple. On the xb just pop the front plastic around the guages off, then un screw the the guage so that you can pull the whole thing out and then just simply disconnect the harness. very simple. any questions just drop a pm. hope this helps.

So it's no longer a cable, but a wiring harness? I suppose by unhooking the wiring harness that you also lose everything that the gauge measures - tach, gas, odometer.
I didn't realize the speedo was activated by an electrical signal. Thanks for the info.

Anyone know what color wire the speedometer signal is on the gauge cluster connector?

Why would you want to do that anyway? I see some fishy business going on here . Tampering with the odometer is a felony in most states. I know you don't care but if your're busted you will.

you would have to pull the main computer to stop the miles from adding up. All the fauge cluster does is display the computer info. Better luck next time.

Actually piston, you are wrong. There is a CPU on the gauge cluster that stores and record the mileage. The ECU calculates the speed and such and sends this signal to the guage cluster to record. Unplug your gauge cluster completely, drive a few miles and plug it back in... you'll see that there is no change.

Actually I have driven amost 500 miles without my cluster in the car, due to dash mods, and after hooking it back up the mileage did increase. Maybe on smaller chunks it will not record, but on major amounts it still calculates it.
