Which scion? xa/b? tc? I have a bB(xb), and im no audio expert, but i have a vented box w/12" woofer and it sounds hella good, considering that there is alot of 'air space' in our bB's, IMO.

Neither is "better" they just both have different applications. Sealed wont have as much output, but is generally considered an "sq" box, as it hits cleaner. Ported will be louder, but takes up more space, and is generally designed to hit a certain frequency more powerful(this is "tuning" the box to that specific freq., used in SPL contests to get the most db's possible).

seal or ported is a bigger debate and there are lots of varibles like:

a improper box for a sub will sound and perform bad;
ported takes up lots of space but you can go into deeper tuning freqencies;
sealed boxs offer clean bass that hits a little diffent than a ported box;
ported you can run less watts to get the same affect from a sealed setup running more;
there is benifits to both sides and down sides to both equally just pick the one that will work the best for you

i have an ID MAX and for me, in my xb, i was running it in a sealed enclosure @ about the right cubes, and it hit alright, but down low, near 20-35hz, i was not getting great response. built a ported box, tuned to 28 hz, and it sounds much, much cleaner, while it isn't -as- tight on some of the notes, i feel that the range for the speaker really broadened with the port. i get great response all the way to 125 hz and i'm loving it.

again. very user specific and vehicle specific.
