Where is the SPFR sub enclosure for sale for $325???
If your running a fiberglass or plastic molded box hell even a wood box most of the time your going to put some polyfill in to help reduce standing waves. I'm running 2 KEF ( those who been around know the quality, of course there not around anymore) 8" with a JL 250X1 amp to them and let me tell you if I want to hit I can hit. In designing a sound system there are many factors involved, not just speaker size, and what type of box you use. The car environment for SQ is no easy task. Just throughing some componets together isn't going to get you crisp clear sound. You need some way of tunning the Frequencies to your car be it an EQ, Parametric EQ, or just plan old passive crossovers. I see alot of people changing out the factory speakers, they really are not that bad as a start. I'm pushing 75watts to each front speaker and no rears and it sounds great. But I'm also running an Eclipse 8443 which has built in Parmetric EQ, Time Alignment... etc. I really don't recomend buying speakers, amps, and headunits till you have heard them, because everyone has different tastes specially when it comes to mid's and highs. Some people like real tinny highs that pop the high freq. I on the other hand like a more flat and natural sound, and the xB works well with this since you have 2 big tweeters right on the dash reflecting off the glass. Well thats my take on it. If anyone has any questions let me know. I have been doing systems for all my cars since I got my first car ( 1985 VW GTI) was a great car. Oh and remember with a hatchback your not going to need to push the low end as much since your whole car will turn into a speaker. Also I recomend listening to different people's systems with the windows up and down. You will hear more bass with the windows down then up, since the low frequency wave has time to complete its slope. Well thats it for me on the topic.
I'll have to see if i can get Jon get some pictures of him driving over a SPFR enclosure with his big ___ monster truck and post them up - those things are totally unbreakable.
better yet, i'll get some video of me throwing a SPFR enclosure 10 feet in the air and it not being damaged at all from the fall, serriously, i've seen Jon do this before, it's kinda funny but cool at the same time to see how tough they are.
i'd like to see someone try that with a fiberglass enclosure
but then again who cares if you can park a tractor on your speaker box, or throw it 10 feet in the air without breaking it - you're never going to do that anyways, what matters is if it sounds good and looks good and is a fair price right?

Thanks for the reply...some great advice to mention get a headunit with tuning capabilities. It's nice to be able to adjust all that stuff without having to access your amp. If your getting this SPFR box your probably mounting your amp under the passenger seat, or to the back of the rear seat.
ya on my car and eric's car our amps are under the front passanger seat.
it's a nice install, very stealthy, even my fairly large kicker 550.3 is totally hidden under the seat.

ok the boxes are strong. we get it.
i hereby award both sub enclosures "forklift safe".
but the point is: how do they sound? because i think people buy speaker boxes to get good bass response, not to use as a forklift stand. ok, i'm just messing around. that forklift picture is really cool. that's some strong fiberglass.

ok children, or should i say child, both enclosures seem to be good product. personally seeing a forklift over a fibreglass enclosure is more impresive. so to all those who are sponsored by this company im sure you have great products in your cars and im sure they all sound great, but like what has been said on other posts this would not have gone so far if someone didnt start bad mouthing another product before they had seen it, especially when they are sponsored by the other company. rule number 1 in business never badmouth anothers product, (atleast not publically) especially if you are a employee or sponsored by the other company. it always comes back to biting you in the ___, by the way you never know when you might be in direct contact with the other company...... p.s. where is john's say in all of this?
for those of you that had questions about muffle or distortion with the box/grill combo with stuff on top i actually noticed that it sometimes gets louder. i guess you can thank the laws of compression for this one.
Do you have this actual box? I am trying to get some feedback from people who actually have it and have heard it.

Both companies need to compress the box with air or other measureable medium to see how much PSI it takes to make the box explode. That's going to be the true test of strength.

The point of parking a 13,000 LB forklift on top of our enclosure was done to test the flexural strength of the box. It's also a lot of fun! But do not do try this. It could be dangerous and that last thing I want is for someone to get hurt! Fiberglass (which is fiber-reinforced plastic) has awesome flexural strength properties, which is extremely important with any subwoofer enclosure. You don't want any enclosure (wood, plastic, fiberglass, etc.) with walls that flex and move. This can create a nasty resonance which will create poor sound quality and SPL. A strong, rigid enclosure is a must for any enclosure to sound good.
Dropping a subwoofer enclosure to the ground serves very little purpose to evaluate the sound quality characteristics of it. However, we do this test as well with every enclosure we have designed (including our xB enclosure) to test the strength of our bonding agents.
Ultimately, the best test (and the only one I recommend and encourage for you to do) to evaluate the sound quality of an enclosure is to throw your favorite driver in it and start jammin! We do this test as well....a lot! It's our favorite!
