Where to tap for low-power constant 12v?

Where to tap for low-power constant 12v?
My monster cable inverter uses a remote 12v line for turning on/off but due to the nature of my relay system I will be using I would like for this to be always active so where would be a convenient place to tap if I will be placing the inverter in the trunk? Would this be the same as hooking up power directly to the battery except with a much smaller gauge wire? Would i still need a fuse? Thanks in advance.
