the back speaker is 5 1/4. However, it can handle some 6 1/2. It all depends on depth.

Sure the front is 6.5? I took off the door and measured my `05 and i looks liek 5.25 to me. I got the scosche adapters too and I dont see how they would fit 6.5" either...

6 1/2's fit fine in the front and back. if you pull out the door panels and speakers and lower the windows, you'll see you won't have any issues there, so you have more than enough room to mount anything you could possibly want. the only problems you could face are if you use 3 way speakers with a tall tweeter because it might touch the door panel and sound crappy. my suggestion is to make some brackets out of mdf and mount a component set up front and a nice 2 way speaker in the back. just make sure that if you keep the stock headunit you use speakers that are very sensetive since you won't be feeding them much power. otherwise, you'll lose a lot of the base output. and if you can, sound deaden the doors because it makes a difference you won't believe. hope that helps.

and be sure to check out crutchfield.com. they have pretty decent guides as to what fits. even if you choose not to buy it there, you'll know it'll work for your application. and read the reviewsbecause sometimes they'll have some pertinent info.

Wow! OLD POST!

But a good one! Found it by searching. Now, this is what I've been wondering, too. Randomsuper, you're aware that Crutchfield.com doesn't specify anything large than 5.5 in the fronts? It's all kind of confusing. Also, what exactly is MDF? How does one go about fabricating mounting brackets using it? I really would like to know, because I'm sooooo sick of my factory speaks I might vomit. soon.

So, any definitive speaker size solutions for the XA?

mdf is like plywood only much more stiffer and actually stronger most of ya aftermarket speaker boxes are made of mdf multi density fibre board all i have in the past messed with particle board speaker boxes that wound up literally in pieces so my suggestion all boxes for sub and baffles for speakers be mdf as for me and friends situation we dont have the speakers yet but still lookin at kicker and sony stuff wish us luck hes sposed to have the money av to start gittin stuff in few weeks should runn 500-600 bracket for everything and yes we are gonna use the factory head for a while atleast till he can afford a decent aftermarket head
