Default Xb Cigarette Adapter Question.

I want to tap off the cig lighter adapter, but im not sure which wire is the power. black or white? I remember someone saying that black was power, but i couldnt find the post.

Buy a voltmeter at radio shack. It will make your life alot easier dealing with electronics in your car.

thanks for the tip, but that didnt answer the question... For anyone who wants to know, the 12v is the predominately white wier

white is 12v. in 99% of all japanese cars. black is ground

also, lick your finger and touch both wires, if you get shocked, you know which one i keed

Another way to tell is look at the housing. the ground is usually always the outer part and the posative is usually the center contact.

In any case when you have two wires, one perceived to be ground, usually the darker wire is ground. In the case where two wires are both the same color, usually one of the wires has a stripe going down it. A dark stripe is usually ground, tera, earth, a light stripe is usually ring/hot. The only way you will ever know for shur is to either spark it (possible fuse blowage), lick it (possible tongue burnage), or meter it. Anyone doing any electrical work should either have a voltage detector (sharp pointy thing with a light on it) or a multimeter (9 bucks). Another benefit of the multimeter is you could tell how much current your accessories are drawing by hooking up the meter in line with the device.
