Just wondering what size sub you've got under your seat.

Also, wondering how big of a sub would you put under your seat if it would fit?

I have an 8 under each side. A 10 is about all that would be feasable with the current offerings. I was lookinginto the blaupunkt 12" subs that are only about 3" deep overall, but they are like $300 a piece and then I remembered... "oh yeah, it's still blaupunkt".


I would love 10's, 12's would be nice as an option too. We have the diameter, and can get roughly 0.5 cubes under each seat without too much trouble, but how many 12's are out there that have a mounting depth of less than 4 or 5 inches and only need 1/2 a cube?


If I had the skill for woodworking I was going to put 2 8's under each seat, I can have the drawing all worked up but it looks like it may be more than I can tackle with my jig saw and circular saw.

So...say there was a 10" speaker, maybe 3.5" or so deep that liked a box that was around .3ish cubic feet, yay or nay?

 

that would be cool. only .3 wont thump or so one would think. i'm running older pioneers that like .75 ft i'm running .65 so.... but they love to thump away...

that would be a great product. alltho only .3 ft would be small even for underseat. if you are super creative you can fit 5 inch mounting depth and about 1 cubic foot. but that'd be a box that filled up the entire area under the seat

 

Subs are all about trade offs

Small boxes can definitely thump if the speaker is designed to do so in them.

I don't have my sub under the seat, but what I'd really like to see is an amp rack/stack for two amps of the same dimensions that fits under the passenger side seat. If it had room for the distribution blocks, caps and crossover that'd be great too!

 

for those with underseat subs, how many have them firing up or down? How do they sound in either position? I've been really curious as to how much bass is muffled by the floor or seat bottom.

a mid-end 10" is perfect. The only 12's you would be able to fit are low-end ones. Small magnet/cone/VC, etc.

 

I've got 1 8" under each seat.

The enclosure outside dimension is .66 however when you calc internal with speaker displacement, I am at .37 and that is why I chose to run 8's so they have the proper airspace required rather than 10's.

I havent heard other xb systems yet but am hoping I will hear a few at a meet coming up at Dublin Scion in the east bay.

I did a lot of reading on if I should have them downfiring or up. I figured one could have a little more airspace firing up ( since you would not lose airspace for the downfire portion of the box ) and it would still be "loaded" hiting up against the bottom of the seat...however I went the downfire method. I am curious how it would have sounded the other way ( firing up ) and would like to hear a setup that way as well...again maybe I will see that at the local show. I could turn my boxes upside down however the way they are built I wouldn't be able to put my seat over it to get the full effect how it really would be.

My concern with the downfire method was I would be losing some volume...where the front seats mount... the two front bolts that hold the seat down there is that raised portion in the floor that is higher than the small gap in the box...so basically sound is just leaving the small slot towards the rear of the xb... if they were mounted upwards... sound pressure would be again loaded up against the bottom of the seat and could move air foward and towards the rear... anyway... I understand bass supposed to be non directional at low freq. so this might not make any difference...

I use to run 10"kickers under my seats in my moms rover but when i would go out with friends back in the day the subs always ended up getting kicked or something. I even told them to watch for the subs, but no listening lol. So one of my friends put a hole through my kicker and it sucked!! so now i have two 12 JBL GT 1000w subs in the back running on a JBL GT 300W amp.

 

I want to run an 8" under each seat as soo as I find a good box....I already have 2 12"s in the back..never enough bass

 

10 inch Sony Xplod 0.6 CF firing up under passenger seat, custom (that means homemade ) sealed box. Amp (Sony 600 watt bridged) under driver's seat. Needed the room in back for cargo. Bass frequencies are non-directional, so the location doesn't really matter (unless the woofer is pushed right into the carpet restricting its movement. I can't hear any difference with the woofer under the seat or out in the open. Not breaking any windows with this rig, but it sounds a lot better than decent and it only cost me about $250 bucks (and about 8 hours ) to pull it off.
