Default xm radio question (oponions anyone?)

has anyone subscribed to the xm service? If so how do you like it? Also my scion says its "xm ready" but also says you need to buy and additional tuner. So i guess that means its NOT "xm ready". Right?

I don't subscribe, but I don't believe paying $10 a month for Radio, but that's just me.

As far as XM Ready, that just means that the Radio has an XM Mode, kinda like a CD mode.

Hope this helps

yeah and that xm tuner is like $420!!! hopefully maybee someday we can get somthing else that will plug into and use the xm spot on the back of the HU.

As far as xm quality ive heard and found it rather impressive. if Howard Stern ends up on satalite radio just wait and see how popular satelite radio becomes.

Default XM ... It is okay

The radio being ready means you can use the factory head unit with the sat reciever and that means no FM modulator and that crud. I helped to install a receiver in a 03 Sebring with a basic stock radio. The thing sounds great . It is almost CD quality for that stock system. If you are going to upgrade the stereo don't get XM. I have it and love it but I have a comute that puts me on the road alot and I like listening to what I like wherever I go. The factory Lexus speakers in Scion are all I want.

I love xm, I think it is worth the extra 10 bucks a month. I even live in the D.C. area so it isn't like there is a shortage of regular radio stations. I think that if everyone had access to VH1's "Behind the Music" in their cars there would be no road rage. You end up listening to stories of bands you don't even care about and it's nicely numbing.

Honestly though I think the options of channels is great, you can listen to one channel and surf through the others and read what's on. If you spend a lot of time in the car I recommend it.

How does the XM / Sirius antennas look once installed? I've seen some cars with big box looking ones on the trunk or roof, and that's one of my biggest reasons for not getting it.

Can people w/ satellite antennas post some pics to get ideas of what it will look like?

Thanks!

I definitly love my Sirius. the programing on there is a lot better then XM IMO(barely any repeats unless your on TOP20 ch). One of the point i Liked about Sirius was that all their music channels were commercial free. But now XM also switched to commercial free rather than 30%. So I guess all you have to do now is look and compare channels/programs that you like. I pay $13 a month and its well worth it(like buying a CD every month) my wife and I don't even listen to local radio anymore unless its for traffic news.

Check Out their Websites,

www.sirius.com

www.xmradio.com

Hope this helps,

IMO if you aren't in your car long enough to enjoy satelite radio, don't bother getting it, Kenwood/Sirius is doing a promotion right now, which includes getting a free tuner with purchase of any kenwood compatible unit. so try it out and if you don't like it cancel it... that way you don't have to pay 420 for a tuner box.

the antennas seem to be getting smaller and smaller! some are as small as half the size of a dell mouse and is only .6" tall! I'll get pics up of the antennas we have....as soon as possible

BTW how many of you have cable tv but don't watch it?

I got Xm last week and dont know how i lived w/o it all my life. well worth the 10 spot a month. the antenna is small and hardly noticable, the tuner adds to the blue theme in my interior. A good buy all around.

If you spent several hours a day in your car commuting, you would eventually get tired of listening to the lame ___ radio stations, playing the same lame assed main stream songs over and over, with the same lame assed DJ's making stupid jokes between twenty minute commercial breaks. The money I've spent on XM radio has been the most worthwhile yet. I listen to what I want, when I want. You can get a picture on your Television with a pair of rabbit ears, for free, right? but I bet you have cable don't you? Its just a higher level of entertainment, and for some of us its worth it.

I agree spending the $10 per month is worth it. I have the Xm radio and Love it. It is expensive for the unit from factory but it is worth it. Remember that the unit from factory is digital and not analog. I have a second unit on my Sequoia using the fm modular and the sound quality it not even close to the Scion. You can definitely hear the difference.

I'm going to sign up to XM soon since they're doing $10 a month rather than $13. :D

XM and Sirius both have traffic info now for the top 20 or so markets.
