Default XM Satellite radio problem

I recently bought a new pioneer headunit (model number DEH-P6900UB) and had it installed by my local Circuit City. This headunit was advertised to support both XM and Sirius radio so I felt I would have no problems. Now, I had satellite radio with my stock headunit and I told the people at Circuit City this; they said I would have to buy a seperate receiver for the satellite radio to work with my new headunit. I really wanted to call B.S. but I was in no position to so i just let them install the headunit. I have yet to go back and ask about the seperate part that is needed because I feel like I already have it in my car. I've been scowering the threads and I've done a bit of research and I think I do have the part, how would it have worked with my stock headunit right? So I removed my new pioneer a few days ago, looked in the back and there are like, wire harnesses that are not plugged in. It's not that the guy forgot to plug them in, it's that they don't go anywhere on the headunit. So my question is: Do I have to buy an adapter for the harness to go in to the new headunit? Or do I have to replace the entire satellite setup and start from scratch?

Thanks in advance,
-Brandon

I'm not too familiar with that specific head unit, but I did try to do some research on it. I went over to crutchfield.com and found that model, then I looked at the accessories for it and found this: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-qbZdNr1...display=XL#Tab

Now by looking at that picture it seems that you need those 2 boxes but only have the tuner itself(the bigger box). So I think you need this http://store.xmfanstore.com/pioneeradapter.html, It looks like it's supposed to go between your head unit and the SAT tuner. Hope this helps some.

*Note: I assumed you were wanting to hook up XM radio, but if you want Serius then just use the same method I did to find that part.

Thanks for the input dude, you basically just confirmed my worst fears lol. Well at least I don't have to buy a whole new receiver. I just feel like I can't be the only one whoe's had this problem. Has nobody else upgraded their headunit with the satellite radio in there already?

In any case thanks for the help bro,

I just added the XM to my AVIC D3 and it also required the addtional box and antenna, I dont think there are any aftermarket headunits that are all inclusive, they are pretty much all sat radio ready, but you still need to by the box. I think they do this so you have the choice between XM and Sirus, even the factory head units are like this.

Hope this helps

P.S. The XM is Bad ___!! I wasent ready for how clear it is, sound quality is as good as CD if not better.

I agree, XM was totally worth it, I'm just upset because I've been without my classical music for like a week now! No good stations down here in South Florida for Classical lol.

Where does the XM receiver install in the 1st Gen Xb? I seem to recollect reading it was under the drivers seat?

The factory XM will only work with a factory radio. Aftermarket radio need their manufacturers receivers. Not only are the plugs different, but the software they use to communicate don't match. If you want to stick with only Pioneer products, you will need the GEX-P920XM.
P.S. Should have gone to Best Buy.

Default XM Radio Install

Thank you for your response FoDoToaster! I am retaining my OEM Pioneer radio (which does have a SAT button). Basically what I am trying to figure out is where to locate the XMD1000 Universal Tuner and the Terk XLMDTK Smart adaptor. It doesn't appear to me that there is much room behind the radio or in the dash itself. Any suggestions?

You probably won't be able to place it right behind the radio, but you should be able to squeeze it off to the the side. I have a really old Alpine screen brain on the passenger side. Pretty much behind the right ac vent. Should have enough room there.
