You would be retarded to drop it without some sort of shock and strut upgrade.

Hotchkis Springs (1.6" drop)
Hotchkis Strutbar
18" Motegi MR3s on 225/40/18
Stock Struts/Shocks

The ride is almost Cadillac-like. Nice and smooth! If the struts/shocks blow, I'll know it. Then it's TRD time. Why replace them now? They're still good!

I have my box dropped on Tein S-Techs with stock struts/shocks, and I have had no problems at all. And no, we are not retarded for doing so, as Curious George 238 said. I think he's ____ed that he spent all that money at the dealership for the suspension set up, only to have a one inch drop that really doesnt require any upgraded struts/shocks.

tutorial needed. who can write a tutorial that will explain this -mere assertion- (see above) that lower springs reduce the service life of stock shocks and stock struts.

Who can tell us HOW and WHY this is?

don't beleive unsupported assertions or pass on hearsay. It may all be true bvt, uh, .... let's see the money

thanks!

I have Tanabe df210's with stock shocks and struts. 215/35/18 made a huge difference with the wheel gap, but now I kinda wish I went with 19 inch rims. My 18's look kinda small to me after seeing some other peoples rides with 19's and 20's.

IMO, anything over 18's are too much. All you do at that point is sacrifice ride comfort and increase the risk of blow outs, damaged rims, etc. Again, thats just my 2 cents. I went from 17's to 16's, and love it, so Its all in what you like. But dont think your 18's are small, they look fine.

I lowered mine with Goldline and the ride is perfect with the stock shocks. If i had the stock rims and tires on it, it would have ridden better than stock in my opinion. They manufacturer the springs to accomadate the stock shocks. IF my shocks ever blow out i will opt to buy the tokico's or maybe the trd shocks. But thats if, I doubt it will happen. I never scrape on anything and its a little over 2 inches lower than stock with 18 inch rims.

I wrote to GoldLine and asked them about the OEM shocks and struts. Here's the response I got:

Gold Line (along with most other spring companies) design their product to
work with factory shocks/struts. Not to say that overall ride/handling
quality cant be improved by going to an aftermarket shock/strut.
I'd rather use up the OEms and then replace them than have a nice set of unused OEMs sitting on the shelf and be that much closer to replacing the aftermarket ones...

I have a set of hotchkis springs that i won and they even recommend using the stock shocks. I haven't had any problems in the 4000 miles they've been on.

Goldline springs cost me $135 before taxes at a local honda dealership. I installed them myself. Most places charge $50 for installation.

I used DF210s, and will replace the shocks with aftermarket units as soon as Koni puts them on the market. So, the early demise of OEM shocks scares me not.

I live in southern california... so i cant really put my input as in driving around the snow since i havent seen snow in around 3 years or so. What i can say is you can have your car seasonal.. Have your car stock during the winter and lowered with rims during the other seasons that has nice enough weather to allow to drive it. It really does not take long at all to lower it or put it back to stock. 15 min. in the back and maybe 1 hour in the front. Just keep the stock springs and rims so you can do this. It will kind of be like a bear... Hibernating during the winter and runing picking fish out of the water and ripping peoples heads off during the summer!!
