Default Big Question About Springs

Whats happening? So I have an xB and I just ordered Tein S tech Springs. (I'm in NJ) And I'm calling around and NO places install lowering springs. Just wondering what kind of things need to be adjusted (whatever that thing is that can make you tires slant inwards) and for those of you who have slammed your xB, what did the shop say they had to do?? How hard is it to get it done yourself. My friend said he'd do it for $150 without an alinement. So I would be paying over 200 just to install $150 springs!! WTF. Wasnt there people installing for like $50?? Thanks.

$150?! Wow...I have heard of shops doing it with alingment for $80...that's professional done. It isnt the hardest thing to do in the world..I think there is a how to in the tech section.

EZ to do yourself. Just becareful when undoing the nut that holds the spring perch on for the front struts.

Yeah, follow the directions in the tech forum.

Do NOT pay $150 for spring install. Get your wheel alignment (you only need front end alignment) at your Scion dealer, around $40. You don't need rear alignment, because its just a solid beam back there, it doesn't move (camber.)

Thanks for all the info. But I dont know about doing it myself, I dont have all the tools i need etc. I think I'd rather pay for it done.

Are there any franchise places (like Jiffy Lube) that would do it or are you only talking about performance shops? Also, do you think a Toyota dealer would do it....cheaply??

There is no way, the Toyota dealer charges out of the crack of their ___. They want $639 for TRD Springs installed . I am driving to Ft. Smith (One Hour Away) to a authroized Tein dealer and have them installed..

Most of the tools you would need you could rent from autozone for free with the secruity deposit you put down and you get back once you return the item...or find a tire place should be able to do them. Or a custom shop that sells wheels.

You don't really need that many tools. All you need to basically get it done is...

-12mm wrench for the strut tower nuts (you can get at those nuts with this and don't have to remove the wiper cowl or anything).
-14mm socket/rachet for brake line bracket bolts
-17mm socket for rear shock nut and torsion beam nut, and front strut nuts
-19mm wrench and socket for the front strut bolts which hold it to the knuckle

Thats about it. I mean it always helps to have a lot of tools on hand, I used a lift, 1/2 impact wrench (just for the wheels), 3/8 impact for all the bolts/nuts, wall mounted spring compressor, vise grips to hold the spring in place when you tighten the nut (because it can move sometimes), and probably other stuff to.

Some things that bother me about this that are not included and are important are...

-Undo the 14mm bolt for the brake line brackets. When you press down on the rear end the brake line gets very close to completely running out of slack. Do yourself a favor and take off that nut so the line has more slack and you don't break or damage your line. Also you shouldn't even need to take off the wheels in the rear, I didn't have to. Also they never tell you to zero the preload on your torsion beam bushings which will cause them to tear after a while if you do not undo that bolt, put the car on the ground, than tighten the bolt.
