Question Looking for a good set of shocks and struts for a smooth ride

Ok so my front driver side shock is blown on my xA so I want to replace them all the way around. But my first question is for my own knowledge is what’s in the front and what’s in the back like shocks or struts. Now what would you all recommend for me to get I’m looking for a good ride I have low profile tires on 18s the specs of those are 215/35/18 and it’s a soft rubber tire the speed rating is V so I’m thinking that will save the ride some but I’m looking for more. So just something not to cheap but not outrageously expensive I’m willing to spend 300 give or take but I can afford more expensive ones if need be.

P.s. would shocks and struts save a wheel if I hit a pot hole or something?

Thank you
Robert

Just my two cents, but about 1k after I got my xb in '06 I put Monroe sensa-tracks on the back for a much improved ride. Around 120k I changed the front struts and the rears again with Monroes. As far as 18's and potholes go (we have lots of them here in Mn.) IMO shocks aren't gonna save bending a rim. I've bent 16's on them.

89k miles, on an 05, justsuspension had a kyb kit for front and rear, also replaced upper shock bushings from dealer, and strut mounts (monroe). borrow a spring compressor from o'reallys. still running stock, no drop. alot smoother ride

konys are really good but pricey, what kind of price range do you have?

opps nvm, i missed your $300 statement. konys would be about 650 or so, but you can adjust ride height by 35 mm and they are great for adjust ability

After experimenting with Koni Yellows using TRD and stock springs, I can say with confidence neither set up yields smoother ride (much better feel/control) even when struts/shocks set 50/50. Once Koni set up full stiff, you'd better make time to visit your friendly dentist...
P.S
My testings were performed with lifting xA 1 inch or so from stock. So handling on full drop will most likely differ even when using Koni Yellows.
IMHO, when aspect ratio drops below 45, no one should expect even a limousine air suspension ride smoothly. You have 35 ratio ... no suspension setup can alleviate harshness of your ride.
No suspension mod, as far I know, will save your rims from bending when using such low profile tire.
My .02...

Any strut or shock that has adjustability is meant more for competitiion use rather then street use. The trd tokico factory option is meant to have a firmer ride and better handling. Look at it like this:

Get better handling but sacrafice ride quality.

Better ride quality, but worse handling.

The kyb g2's or excel g's are OE replacements but slightly better control then OE. The tokico blue's have better control over the excel g's, and if I remember right the koni red's have more control over the tokico's.
