hey guys I'm allyn from Cali. im a new member but not at all new to the site. I have a couple questions that I was hoping I could get some answers to. i was on Facebook marketplace looking for parts and stumbled across a listing titled 2006 Scion Xb Aftermarket And Modified Parts. Modified spindles and lowers for camber Good for -12 is what is in the description. i have never seen or heard of this being done I'm not against doing things ourselves or doing custom work so i wanted to hear what you all thought of these . i was always told that cast was very difficult to weld. is this common ??? I'm not at all bashing this mans work but this does intrigue me.

 

Unless I know who welded them or there was the option to return them I'd be wary...for the very reason you stated. Suspension items aren't something I'd want to 'roll the dice' on the quality of the work.

 

That's NOT good spot to cut & weld!!! High load & torque there. Would be better to chop and weld on line parallel to mounting holes. Lots more surface area to spread load and lower torque moment there too.

Not to mention those welds look like crap!!! Here's how to do multi-layer weld in high-stress area.



Besides, if you want that much camber, just slot mounting holes in strut.

 

Depends how much carbon is in the casting, needs to be low - which is difficult to detect for the average guy.
Welded suspension parts? No.
That sprocket is toast BTW. The welding is nice, looks like a machine did it.

Needed offset sprocket on my VFR for wider wheels.
Practiced on old sprocket to start.

 

Oh, holy crap. I hope you didn't end up installing those, because they are a disaster waiting to happen.

Steering knuckles (or spindles or whatever you want to call them) are forged, not cast. Forged steel is incredibly difficult to weld safely and should only be entrusted to welders with a lot of experience. My recommendation is to cut your losses and toss those straight into the trash.
