Default Monroe Install Question

Ive read two different install guides, and neither of them mention what to do with the metal clip that comes on the monroes. What is that thing, and what does it do? Thanks ya!

EDIT - After looking at the stuff, it looks like it was there to try to keep the shock compressed during packaging and such. It threw me off because both of them werent hooked up and when I opened th eboxes, the damping rod, or whatever, came expanding out of the box.

You are correct. It's just there to hold it.

The holder on my monroe 5870's was a plastic zip tie looking thing around the eye of the shock and the rod to keep it compressed in the box.
